Jesse James is just the host. Its his show , but the guys on there are doing the work because they are trying to win something and they are given a certain amount of money to "budget" the project with. So, Jesse might help out with stuff, but its their job to get the project done with the amount of money they are given to spend, and if they do, then they win something, like tools or whatever.

Forget Jesse James. Compared to Chip Foose, Jesse's stuff is...well...different. I won't rag on James anymore, but I still don't think he's all that cool.
Chip Foose, on the other hand, builds the most amazing one-of-a-kind cars I've ever seen....and totally from scratch, except engines and those he contains under the hoods of these cars in fascinating ways. Saw a show on the tube about his cars last night. I was in awe.

I saw the show about the making of custom hotrods and it was fantastic. If you get the chance to see it - DO! It's great!
