Almost got a new MINI!

Nearly got slammed into by some IDIOTIC driver. The guy was traveling (probably) around 50, 60 mph. He decided to go through a snow covered patch of pavement (mind you, he was heading towards me in the opposing lane). I see him enter the patch (I can do nothing at this point except swerve (bad) or slam on my brakes (even worse). He goes left, then right, left, then into the ditch on his side of the road. The thing was this - I had no way to stop if he had swerved into my lane. As it is, my entire windscreen was covered in snow. If he HAD stopped in my lane, I probably had one of two choices:

go into the ditch on my side

go into the ditch on his side

#2 would have been ideal (less steep of a ditch), but I'm not too sure I would have been prepared to do that (no oncoming traffic).

He was fine, I was fine. My MINI was fine. Not too sure about his car.

John

Why won't folks take road conditions into consideration as they motor on down the road? Glad you are okay, John. Better check to see if you earned any grey hairs!

Glad you're okay John. What a helpless feeling that is.

There was a snow coverd spot like that down the road Saturday and we watched about five cars go off. Got to the point we were betting who would go off and who would make it judging by their speed and vehicle. "Here comes a minivan....I say DITCH!!"

Glad to hear you're okay, and that was "just a drill." ...when I lived up north, I tried to save slalom driving for large empty parking lots... Back in 1975, when it snowed in Miami, I was scared to death to even walk across the street.... Mick

I will never understand why so many people end up sliding off the road, although here in MI snow is "rare" enough to warrant bad snow~winter drivers.
