I bought a 2005 MINI. I didn't feel I needed the extra HP and wanted something good on gas. It was to be my only car and a daily, all-season, all-weather driver. When I took my MINI in for the first scheduled service, the dealership loaned me an "S" for the day. All I have to say is: Wow!!! I never test drove the S before I bought. The difference in power and acceleration are incredible. It would be a hard decision now if I were buying. There have been times where the added power and zip would have been nice, but is it needed on a daily basis??? I feel your pain... :impatient
