R50/53 Least expsensive place to buy the sport link
Beth,
I did do some calls on this even though my MCS won't be delivered for months. I did not find any of the dealers in my area (San Francisco) who were discounting the price of the parts. But there was a $200 difference in the cost of installation.
It is a fairly involved process. In my area one dealer (SF) was charging $500 for installation. Two other dealers were charging $300.
So you may not get a discount on the parts but make sure you get a fair price on installation.
Good luck,
Martin

Classic MINI in Ohio is known to have good prices on OEM parts. I would give them a call.
If not, maybe you could try to organize a "group buy" with them and then try to recruit the other buyers
here on NAM. ...For the right price I might be interested in a group buy myself.

cover, dropping the exhaust, and drilling a few holes. It's no big deal.
my stealer (Moritz Mini DFW) told me the Sport Link is being phased out. i ordered the mount with the car but was hedging on buying the bike rack immediately and this is when i heard this info. makes sense with the model change forthcoming.
aside, the sports link is great and makes hauling bikes easy.

The manufacturer of the hitch system, MINI FINI, has gone out of business.
I saw something recently which seemed to indicate someone had bought up
the rights to the design and is going to resume production but I have never
seen anything to confirm that.

Thanks guys!
Let me fill some holes here. Motoringfile has step by step directions http://www.motoringfile.com/howto/SP...BIKEHOLDER.pdf
I guess I call Classic Mini, I checked with them a while ago, hoping for something better. It's the shipping that kills you.
This was their quote:
SPORT LINK RETAIL $239.00 / SELLING FOR $191.20
BIKE HOLDER RETAIL $310.00 / SELLING FOR $248.00
AN ESTIMATED QUOTE ON SHIPPING WOULD BE AROUND $60.00
