Well said, Mr. Bunting, well said.

I, for one, really don't care how superior the MCS people think they are over me and my "lowly" MC. I refuse to feel inferior. And that gives them no satisfaction.

So there!

being different is the MINI way

DiD,

Clearly, given all the , you do not like the types of postings you cite. But I think all this says is that you are not like those posters. Isn't the individuality, uniqueness and iconoclast tendencies of MINI owners just a feature of us, just the Way of MINI, and your post is evidence of that?

If we shut down all the threads originating out of what you don't like DID this would be a pretty boring (& unpopulated) place. All we would have is all the "year I was born" "what I am doing at work now" "my mini is (insert color)" & "hi" threads.

Unlike other places on the web where a different opinion will get you or your mama cussed out, I appreciate the good spirited arguments here & I like to read the varying convictions of mini owners offering different opinions. Those kind of threads give food for thought when trying to decide if you should or should not do something (however misguided that advice may sometimes be )

My initial goal was to buy the Cabrio Automatic.
I took a test drive in the hardtop (w/ sunroof) automatic.
Ten minutes later I ordered the hardtop/sunroof MCS manual. (Gotta carry a nine foot six inch surfboard or snow skis afterall).
Three months later I drove my '05 home.
I wave to ANY and ALL Minis. Whether they wave (and smile) back is up to them.
My nose is stuck up to no one ('cept maybe non Mini drivers). :-) It's a camaraderie thing.

The only superiority I will claim is the "I know this is a great car, so wave why don't you!" complex. The owners that bought it because it was cute and don't embrace the community we're part of, drive me crazy!

So yes, those of us who do wave, are superior!

Overall, the flaming on this board is pretty mild...

verging on bland... Some of the other boards I go to, if you don't have numbers to back up your claim, flame you so bad it will singe your body hair! We haven't had anything that inflamitory since El Diablito was banned...

I personally don't mind the "enthusiasm", but I'm not too happy with subjectivity being sold as objective fact.

Oh well, we all have buttons that get pushed.

Great stuff Dave....you think we could get one for those who like seeing what our performance mods are doing....I am tired of hearing

The mini is not for Drag racing....Cooper, Cooper S, or the Traveler....

the only way to find out if you car and you are as fast as you think you are....GO TO THE STRIP!

P.S. I am #1 on the list for the traveler at the dealer I chose....awwww yeah!!

and like the Cooper and Cooper S in my family already...the Traveler will be getting modded...WOO HOO!

I think its still a valid complex. I am not talking about those who start a "come and see my bling" thread, that is even a bit of an extreme example. I am not talking about when opinions are "asked" for like that, I am talking about those who see your sig picture in a completely unrelated thread (performance or OT for example) and make an unecessary comment about your styling as if their conservative styling is superior. Or the fellow who sees your car at a meet and hates on it right in front of you for no reason, and then goes back to his totally stock MINI as if its superior. Grrr.

The question is, is the Traveller a Mini? And to that, the answer is yes (at least when it comes out, the manu data plate will say that). I hope for a new Mini Pick-up and a new Mini-Moke! Now that would be a real triumph of brand re-birth!

A Mini Pick Up would be cool Allthough my 2-Great Danes, most likely still won't fit.

Sorry, but no matter how many people try to ignore the word there is still such a thing as "better."

The MCS is a better car for performance driving than a MC because it provides more power coming out of hairpins and tight corners. The MC is worse in these situations. The MCS is better at performance.

The hardtop is better than the convertable for hard driving. There's less shaking in the interior, it corners faster, and it isn't as heavy. The hardtop is better at driving hard.

The MINI convertable is better for cruising on a starry night or a sunny day. You can see more out the top than with the sunroof- therefore it is better.

Don't be afraid of Better. It's just a fact of life. Pick the car that suits your needs the best, but don't get offended when a tuned MCS driver says his driving experience is purer than yours in a cooper 'vert. His car is lighter and faster, and more involved because of the suspension he has and the sturctural rigidity his design affords.

Motoring is personal, and a convertable defines motoring for some people. That makes a convertable better. Don't rub it in people's faces - that's just rude. But don't bury your head in the sand and say it doesn't.

I think its ok to have opinions... chech that, imperative.

And if we didn't believe very strongly in our opinions whats the point in having them?

Its not ok to belittle someone but I think we should all retain our opinions and broadcast them when necessary.... If we are all confident and secure enough in our own choices and opinions, no one should get offended.

As long as the person shouting out their opinion isnt just being an ***:D

Can't have said it better!

I have a Cooper and I know how fast a Cooper S is, I have no problem with them saying the Cooper S is the "better" car, yeah, it is better performance wise!

Just realize that not everyone is looking for the same "better" and let them have their own choice! For myself, a Cooper is more than fast enough, I bought the MINI for cornering and gas mileage, and the Cooper does all that and more, I don't want the extra cost of owning an S.

Its an open forum, give advice, share stories, have fun

Yes, these are better. The point of the original post however is that if you believe your car to be better than another's for whatever reason, don't be an jerk about it like so many are.

Superior cars and superior aspects of cars obviously exist. Superiority complexes where people act all high-and-mighty are immature and only exist to compensate where something else is lacking.

...I believe the whole issue boils down to what your personal preference is. If it is what suits you, of courseit will be better than a (fill in the blank).

It erks me when other drivers try their best to convince me that their vehicle is the only one that anyone should drive. People constantly tell me the MINI is a bad choice because (for example) I can't fit the entire boy scout troop, their camping equipment and canoes in it or on it. If I wanted to haul all that, I would not have bought a MINI...

...at work, we wear uniforms, but I am me, I am an individual ...my car is a MINI, there are several in town, but my MINI is unique...

Celebrate our diversity! It opens up minds to new and exciting ideas...and keeps the "gene pool" from getting too shallow. I am not a Birkentstock wearing, pacifist, tree hugger, vegetarian...well, okay, I am a vegetarian, I just enjoy being different and meeting people who think outside the box...people who express themselves in a creative, non-violent way...and if that means a person who likes to drive a MINI convertible and show off thier bright pink hair and tie dyed tee shirts, then okay...

...okay, I preached and babbled, but I am getting off my soap box now...

Mick

There is one ABSOLUTE BETTER about a Mini when compared to any other car.......if you're in the center of a city or town you have a BETTER chance of quickly finding a convenient parking space. On the other hand this aspect
is ABSOLUTELY EQUAL for all Mini's.....MC OR MCS.....for the time being.

I feel like this all boils down to the fact that we all participate in what equate to be middle school arguments, and some of us are finally intelligent enough to see all of the inherent fallacies within them.

Most of us are even swift enough to scoff at the obligatory "MINIs are for Gays" thread. But then we eat up the bait with other subjects, so DiD, I see what you're saying.

Isn't DiD some kind of moderator? Very disappointing to hear this kind of attitude from one who is responsible for keeping this "community" vibrant and interesting. Sounds like the NAM regime may be about to embark on some kind of a pogrom, so watch what you say...

Boooooo on you. I think that DiD did well in his post. Said what many of us think. And anyone who gets upset about it or takes it personally obviously "suffers" from one or many of these complexes and knows it.

Jerks.

I came to this world of Mini because of the FUN FUN FUN. Couldn't care less what people think, say, hint, accuse, point out....yadda yadda yadda. Us Mini drivers are ones that just don't care what others say. Individualistic... is that a word? We are that. Just remember the most important part of Mini ownership......FUN FUN FUN.....
