So, if you join the BMWCCA, are you assigned automatically to teh local chapter or do you need to sigh up for that as well?

 

When you join, you select your chapter. When I joined in 1989, I lived in the Los Angeles area, but the closest chapter was San Diego. Back then there was also the BMWACA in LA (and Seattle I think), which I also joined. Since then, its become the LA chapter of the BMWCCA . Anyway, now my chapter is still San Diego, but I also pay a little more to also receive chapter newsletters from LA and GGC (Golden Gate) in No Cal.

Note here: I did post somewhere (can't keep all the threads clear in my head) that I'd like to see some consolidation of all the various MINI organizations throughout the states. Seems each major urban area has one, with its own organization, web site, events, etc. I find a lot of repeated thread topics, which would greatly benefit from this consolidation. Much like the BMWCCA, a national leadership, with regional chapters might help. OR, we help transform the BMWCCA (perhaps adjust the name, dare I say) to better represent our special interests. I know we're still very young (humble apologies to all the classic Mini owners), but the BMW clubs started with little else back in the early 19070s, and we have the benefit of a lot more experience at hand. Thoughts?

 

I just joined BMW CCA; I chose the Hoosier (IN), Windy City (Chicago) and Bluegrass (KY) chapters.

 

Just a bit of clarification for anyone contemplating the upcoming BMWCCA June 18th Autocross in Los Angeles:

The convertible is not allowed in the driving school on the race course but they are allowed in the Autocross.

 

Actually, many chapters (well, Hoosier and Boston, for sure) are allowing Snell "M" ratings (motorcycle), not just "SA".

 

SA "special application" is what you want in a car. it can take multiple hits.

 

Agreed. However, when the only tool you've got is a hammer-- oh, sorry, wrong analogy. I own an M2000 helmet, and if I can hold off on buying another $250 helmet ... well, I will.
