Welcome to all of the new MCO members who've posted on this thread! I'd just like to point out the SEARCH function for threads...using this function, and searching on the subject of windows automatically going up, you'd find the following previous threads:

One thread about windows

Another thread about windows

Yet another thread about this (this one with virtually the same name!)

I think there're more, but I only tried one variant on the search. I know it's a holiday weekend, but how about saving some bandwidth and using the functionality of the site?

My windows only need a quick press for them to go up automatically. i have not done anything to them to make them do this. they also do the same for the down motion.

Hey Calvin, do your rear fogs light up on both sides, or just the driver's side. I manually hooked up my driver's side w/a switch and relay, and I want to make sure it's "correct".

As far as auto up, there is a way, but it requires aftermarket parts. There is a module made by DEI (the people that make Viper alarms) part number 530T.

It is a window automation module, designed to add automated up and down from an aftermarket keyless entry remote. Another nice feature is that it also gives you one touch up and down on both windows if the car does not have them. It had adjustable settings which will stop the window if it is blocked by something. (If the window is blocked the current going through the module is increased. when it sees the increased current, it stops the window)

The module can be hooked up w/o having an alarm/keyless entry and you will have the benefit of the one touch up/down.

Professional instalation strongly recommended.

As a young child climbing out of the back window of my mom's town and country station wagon, I had the tip of my middle finger removed by the electric window. I like the auto down function I would not be comfortable with an auto up option. They popped my finger back together and it is quite functional. But I will never forget the event!

on our Lexus RX300 we have auto up and it works great. If you put your pinky in the sill it will go until it hits your finger and stop. I tested it and it works. (it does take courage to try it though... I had my finger ready to go on the switch the other way)

I don't think it is that complicated, but they decided we didn't need this feature.

I would settle for window operators that go up and down faster. Are they slow or what?

I amguessing your fingers are more sturdy than a 9 or ten yr old. Mine got pinched and then the jerking is what disconnected it. Kids are more fragile than you think. And I imagine that 67 town and country had quite a motor on the backc window. Just food for thought. I can hold the button tell the window is up. It's not that big an inconvenience.

Boyracer, wat year is ur cooper?? did u have anything done at the dealer when u got it (where did u get it)? also, do u have the rear-fog lights??

>>Aaahhh, that explains your missing marker lights.
By the way the rear fog lights shine out through the top portion of the MINI's taillights, making the MINI more visible to other drivers behind you. They really do look quite nice when they're on.

calvin, r they on both sides, or just driver side?

lb, you really need to read the other threads. Boyracer is in ENGLAND and euro-spec cars have auto-up as well as auto-down. As has been discussed repeatedly, we in the US only get auto-down from MINI (unless you want to go for some of the aftermarket solutions).

Rataha... my point is that, in the year 2003, the automakers can make a safe and effective auto up feature. I can assure you that a baby would not get hurt in my Lexus... as soon as it touched it stoped and went the other direction.

The rear fog lights light up on BOTH sides, not just the driver's side. (that would look odd, wouldn't it?)

Cool, thanks for the info. I've seen a lot of european cars on the road with a fog just on the driver's side, so I wasn't sure. I think my friends S4 just lights up one side, although lately I've seen newer Audis with both lit up. (with the driver having them on in clear conditions, d'oh!)

*clears throat* READ THE OTHER THREADS. USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION. There is a very lengthy thread in the nterior/exterior mod forum called "rear lights..." that goes through about five different ways to do this.

ib,
Seems you are new to MINI and this forum.
Unfortunately not quite everything about the MINI is perfect ... if there are things you are unhappy with, you need to work at it but there may not be a solution!

The US spec MINI comes with no rear fog lights and no auto-up windows. And no official way to get them.
There may be unapproved ways to change your MINI ... but you cannot expect an instant answer.

There was a big discussion on MINI2 about rear fog lights ... so far it has no final answer, but if you read it all you will learn much - including how to buy a UK toggle switch panel that has the missing rear fog light switch (but it will still not work in your MINI when you install it).
http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...threadid=11943

There is also a petition which might be used to persuade MINI US to rethink fog lights - if it bothers you, you should sign up:
http://www.petitiononline.com/MINIfogs/petition.html

PS: I have had the rear fog light switch installed in my new MCS ... first step to getting those rear fogs working!

Rear fog light legality is being debated and I am not sure what the answer is; Do you see other cars (eg: Mercedes, Audi) with rear fogs? The NHTSA (in discussion with the guy that started the petition) seemed to say that rear fogs were OK.

I think you will not get far with auto windows ...
There is little to argue against enabling fog lights - only criticism is that idiot drivers don't know when to turn them off (ie: always, except in foggy poor visibility); many drivers seem to think it is their right to turn every available light on constantly (worst round here is Subarus with their enormous front fogs that apparently do not have an off switch).
But auto-up windows CAN injure people unless they have sophisticated electronics; all it takes is one injury and court case, and the car company hurts. It is simpler for MINI to simply not allow the option in this lawyer-run country. Look at the Ford Explorer roll-over business.

It is certainly possible with enough skill/money/effort to rig an auto-up; but I do not think you will get MINI to do it for you.

zipper would be good, slide too (with that little latch on the end!)

screw it, we should just have window netting, NASCAR style
