When I was signing all the papers for my purchase here in Connecticut, one was a form stating I would not ship the car out of North America within a year (I think) or I would have to pay a hefty sum ($7,500US).

We paid 22.5K for our MINI S, premium package and foglights. The dealer nailed us for a "package" consisting of floor mats and a finish of some sort for 1K. (that is included in the 22.5K.

Um, I think that's the idea...doing the math.... From your post, I think you are in for quite a surprise. MSRP is deceiving as it doesn't include the out-the-door costs, such as what we pay in California in the form of sales taxes. When I did "build your MINI" on the MINI USA site, my Cooper S came in at $22,750. But taxes, fees, and extras added another $3,000. And my dealer didn't even charge a premium.

Do the math.

My dealer hasn't mentioned any dealer options like the rest of the posts on here, but I paid $20,500 + $265.00 delivery/freight charge for my "S" with all three packages, 17" wheels, and the 2 year dealer service package (free servicing for 2 years) I want the BBS wheels that i have seen a couple of people talk about but the dealer here in Germany said he has never heard of a BBS wheel option. :???:

MSRP for my Cooper is $20,470. The only other charges I've been informed of are $350 in stocking/processing fees and $1100 due at lease signing (which I believe covers tax and first payment - still waiting on the paperwork for that). I was able to get a slight reduction in the lease factor they offered by bringing in a competitor's quote - they didn't match it, but they did come down.

I formally requested that no dealer add-ons be included without my written permission, and that went over fine. Probably blows my chances at getting a free keychain, but oh well.

(Sidenote: As the child of a car dealer, part of me feels very reluctant to gloat about paying "just" MSRP ...)

>>>> I paid about $26,000 out the door - that's with CVT, Leather, Premium pkg, floor mats, all at MSRP. No Dealer add-ons, No extra mark-up. I bought an extended warranty, very reasonbly, & that's the only extra.

MSRP was $22,500 & change, then add tax, reg, and the xtra warranty. I didn't enumerate all the bits that came with it. I could always claim the lower figure, but we all know how the out the door price is the true cost. I envy your tax structure.

u want me to do the math razz?

well here u go, the only reason i didnt post the EXACT TOTAL price was b/c i wasnt gonna look through all of my papers for the one that said the total price...

so here u go....the math....
just over 21,000 but under 22,000
i was thinking exactly what u said, all these extra unnecessary charges will bring the cost way up and i asked for the total price, and i was actually surprised, not as high as most peoples expectations.

My MSRP was identical to yours. Roof Racks, autobond, bonnet stripes, and multifunction steering wheel were also added. I walked out the door at 22k, not too bad.

I paid MSRP in Scottsdale, AZ for the "S". The newness and hype seems to be wanning here for the Cooper as you can buy some Coopers with no wait and no add ons to the MSRP. This time next year they will probably be offering discounts on the Cooper. The "S" will probably remain to be held back in production by BMW to try to keep the hype and mystique going, human nature always wants what it can't get and doesn't want what it can get, the old Groucho Marx quote....BMW obviously knows how to market, laugh!

I paid 2k "over". I bought the car in May, off the dealer's "floor". Was not on any wait list and the car was brand spankin' new. I got the exact color and package combo I had wanted and added a few things (Union Jack flag, CD changer. .) at my choice. No mandatory dealer addons like lojack, 18" aftermarket wheels etc. Didn't find a better price throughout SoCal at the time and couldn't find the color/package combo elsewhere and every other dealer would only sell cars "off the floor" with their mandatory (overpriced) additions. I financed the car for 5 years, so the "xtra" is spread over that time. Perhaps more importantly, I could not 'afford' to wait. I had the opportunity to unload the car I had, otherwise I was stuck with it another 7 months. Between gas, car payment and insurance savings, I actually saved money by immediately buying the Cooper and selling my old car, which over the next seven months would have cost me about 3k more in those various expenses than the Cooper will (besides the added enjoyment of driving the MC rather than a Chevy Tahoe)

Chilli red S msrp + $600 for the S lite 17" wheels and $1000 in other useless options. All in all much better then when we tried to buy a first year Miata. While standing there talking with the salesman the mgr. came out and slapped a $4000 dollar markup sticker on the window. When I protested he said if you don't buy it the next guy will. He was right. I waited another 1 1/2 years to get one. The Mini was a breeze. We love it...

Just out of curiosity...... what do you mean exactly by "dealer add-ons"?? You see.... i'm very inexperienced when it comes purchasing new cars from dealerships..... so i'm unfamiliar with all the terms and such!
