The misses gets jealous over the Mini every now and again. I'll go 'oooo, ooo, look at this' and I'll get the .

But then again, our female cat ignores her (though the 2 males love her), and she gets mad at the cat too.

So you have a brief synopsis of he mentality (aka history of jealous, lol)...

Yesterday we go on a 'date' if you will. Dinner and a night at the pool hall... On the way home I take a different route. She gets excited after about 5 minutes because she figured out we were going to ColdStone and screamed "Are we getting ICE CREAM!? YAAAAAAAY!!!". So I told her yes, and asked her why we were getting ice cream.

She shrugged and said 'Because of my raise?'. Well, I guess I know the right answer, but I said no and pointed to the odometer. 9993 miles. I said "We're about to ding 10k miles! How often does that happen." Ahhh well, she got all indignant. I may have dug myself a deeper hole by saying "What did you do for my last raise?" She said "Nothing", and I left it at that.

I don't think making a couple cents more here and there is worth celebrating, but isn't cracking 10k on the first new car you've ever owned? It's a fricken milestone! Is a 25 cent raise a milestone? Maybe a 1/4 milestone.

So am I **too** absorbed with my Mini, or is she just jealous?

Nope, your normal. There was a thread here once about being obssesed, like getting up at 2 AM to look out the window down on the roof!

Nothing to worry about although, since spouses are very important, I would make sure she knows she is special

 

Yes, much too much MINI...although I quietly celebrated reaching over 1000 miles yesterday. I'm sure my boyfriend gets tired of hearing about my little car everyday, yet he doesn't complain. At least not yet...maybe by the time I reach 10K, he'll be irritated with my endless chatter about this great car.

 

I don't have a wife, but I do have a girlfriend. Now she just knows. I was obsessed with the car I had when we met, I was obsessed with the process of buying my first new car, and now I am obsessed with the car, driving it, and its cleanliness.

She says stuff like, "If you ever treat a woman like you treat your car..." but I let it glide off me 'cause she's pretty awesome. She came with me to the dragon and loved it, she went to Octcooperfest, and she genuinely appreciates the MINI for what it is and what it does. I just don't let her drive.

hmmm.. I park my car outside at night (no garage), and I've never looked at my Mini unless I've heard a noise out there, or unless there was other good reason to. I'm not obessed. But I may be a wee bit overboard.

What? You haven't admired your MINI from afar or from your residence on a regular basis? Bah! You are NOT obsesseed...not at all!

 

To be REALLY obsessed, IMHO, you should be able to do the following:

1. Speak out the URL of most aftermarket MINI vendors from memory (not just the obvious ones)
2. Have memorized everything in Randys FAQ
3. Read every thread, every day, in at least Four (4) MINI forums
4. Be able to quote the gear ratios of all models from memory
5. Have memorized the DB ratings of most aftermarket exhuasts
6. Spoken extensively with several MINI tuners on the best approach to gain HP
7. Buy the MINI PJs for the spouse
8. Have at least 5 MINI toys and 3 MINI posters in the house
9. Own at least three MINI hats and two t-shirts (Jackets OK)
10. Have memorized all the OEM part #s from the major components of your car

See, she needs to get something of her own to get obsessed over. A couple years ago, the hubby got the EVO. I rolled my eyes at everything at first, but then he started auto-xing and stuff and I thought...hey, I can do that (if I learn how to drive a stick ) So, he taught me how to drive a manual with his EVO and I decided I needed to have my own car to be obsessive over. So, I sold the Impala and ordered my Bruno. Last year, I went to about twice the auto-x's he did and I went to my first track weekend without him (he had to work, so I went with friends) Now, sometimes when I talk about my car, I get the from him like when I mentioned the other day the Bruno's first birthday is coming up...he was finished at the plant on January 11 last year

Hahaha, nice Mandaboo! I tried to teach her to drive stick, but she doesn't want to. She doesn't even LIKE to drive. One of the things I asked her over and over about her decision to get a Mini, was if we went to Mini events, would she even drive? And she said probably not.

 

One of the cardinal rules of wives: Learn this mantra "Yes, dear, we are going to the ice cream parlour to celebrate your raise!"- Smile- Repeat.

Get the picture? And NEVER volunteer any additional information!

 

If you're feeling brave, just remind her that there are plenty of worse things that you could be obsessed with.

MandaBoo is right. She wants something of her own. You said she has/had a choice but is the truck what she really wants? The reason I ask is because my wife always liked her truck but deep down, wanted something else. We bought her a Z3, what she has wanted for years, and she doesn't mind me speaking of the MINI as much anymore and actually more helpfull when it comes to things to get for the MINI.

If this will be her first MOTD. Take it easy unless she enjoys being in a MINI driven like it should. My wife doesn't so I try to take it easy on the Dragon when she is in the MINI. She hates that road. She enjoys the event and her plans next year are to go slowly up the Dragon on Thursday and slowly down it Sunday. So she says she'll be hanging out at Fontana with the crowd this year and go on an occasional run that isn't like the Dragon. I'm not going to complain. Not may wives will tell you to go have fun on a dangerous but fun road. Wait.....I think I signed an updated life insurance policy before last years MOTD.

 

SB, just be sure to let the rest of us know WHEN wifey plans to go slowly on The Dragon so we can be sure to avoid being on the road with her!

Not everyone is cut out to be a passenger on those roads....I actually love it, but not as much as driving them myself.

I can honestly say I highly doubt if I could make it two miles on the Dragon as a passenger. <insert one of your nice puke smilies here>

 

I think my wife has goten over the whole "who do you love more" thing I told her it is her, the dog then Maximus. I also know that I can not drive with any verve when she is with me (possibly totalling a car with her as the pasenger was not the best thing to do) This past weekend was the first time I ever rode in my car with a real driver at the wheel and it was such a blast the Mini feels so much faster from the passenger seat (or maybe I was afraid my buddy was going to crash)

Ohh and the black Mini with the 333 on the side is the total hotness.

As for the girlie being Jelous...sounds like a personal problem....it sucks....I have dated chics like that....that's why every girl I met before I got my mini I told I had a wife...and she was on a boat on her way from England....they would get all wierded out...LOL...it was great...anywho...to make a long story short then I met Stoopid Girl...she was all about getting a mini too....and when I told her the wife thing she said "...uhhh heh yeah...like i am going to be jelous of a car..." the rest is history...

so, uhhh I have prolly told that story a few times...whatever...there it is again...take if for what it's worth...you can't always worry about things like that....not everyone is going to find a girl with a mini...etc...so I don't know what to say....I know it would be hard for me to date someone who didn't "get it" but that's me....and like many of us have put great time and effort in to what has become an incredible part of my life....a Mini...heh heh
