I'll be moving to California from Mexico City shortly, so I'll be selling my Mexican (Euro-spec) MCS and buying another identical MCS in the U.S.
Assuming I buy my MCS out of state and therefore at MSRP or somewhere close to MSRP and hopefully without dealer mark-ups, how much "extra" should I expect to pay as far as taxes, registration, tags etc.?
How much (on average) does one have to pay in the U.S. for taxes, registration, tags, and all of the other common fees? (excluding insurance, of course).
I'd like to have sort of a ball-park idea of what the whole thing is gonna cost me. The MSRP for an MCS like mine in the U.S. is $24,150.
Any estimates from personal experience would be very helpful!
Thanks..

I would call the Calif. dep. of Motor vehicles and find out what the tags cost and what the % is for the taxes. Sorry I am from Iowa so don't know. Different in different states. Hear My 2002 Cooper tags are around 200 and taxes for purchase were 5%

The 2003 S will be the same 5% and I believe tags are 275.

you really need some calif owners info thouth it varies big time from state to state

Cheerio!!

Hi Calvin77

I paid $195 CA DMV tag fee for my Mini last month. CA did away with the 2% of vehicle value a couple of years ago, but they are trying to bring it back due to the budget defecit.

Sales tax will vary by your location in CA. It ranges from 7.5% to 8.75%

Thanks for your answers!
Sure beats owning a MINI in Mexico..we pay 25% automobile sales tax over msrp AND an ANNUAL 2% "ownership" tax on all cars. In other words, I have to pay about $600 dollars a year in bullsh*t taxes just to "own" my MINI.

Did all my paperwork this weekend - my tax/title fees came to about $2100. I'm in Tennessee. Hope that helps.

Hi Calvin.

My costs will be $45 doc fee, $177 license and 7.5% tax in Sonoma County. Your cost will be based on the sales tax in the county where you register.

If you register with 7.5 sales tax with the msrp you listed your price would be $26,183.

If you go to a county with 8.75 sales tax it would be $26,485.

Andy
