R50/53 Options?
Hey,
I got the 8th mini in colorado and I didnt have a choice on what I got except for color, I got only one option which is the bigger wheels and tires, I still thing the car is great because it comes with power everything and I think that the cruise control is worthless to me because I got the car because it is fun to drive and I don't want it to drive itself.

hey jabrams 800. saw your good reply to my response about guy looking for aftermarket computer. you got the right mini attitude. keep it simple. i just have #3 pkg(winter ) CD boost and DSC. live in brutal northern climate and love the heated seats in pckg#3. as far as i'm concerned, you can take all that junk like computers and cruise and toss it in the trash bin. No sunroofs for me.anybody who has had them before know they have problems when they get old.(had a 1978 smokey and the bandit trans- am with T-tops. what a nightmare) Those massive sunroofs on the minis are going to come back to haunt alot of owners. Hot climate people already turning into strips of bacon in Pheonix. Large sunroofs disrupt the structural integrity of the car making them "not as tight" as cars without. already many complaints about squeaky and rattling roofs. wait till those babys are a couple years old.People will be bummin. dealers licking their chops selling all those "loaded minis to suckers"no dealer was gonna suck me in with all that useless garbage and I saved about 6,000 dollars.have a friend who works for mini.got alot of good tips about keeping it simple. LETS MOTOR
The sunroofs on the mini's add 60 POUNDS! OUCH! thats a lot of weight especially on the roof, I admit it looks cool because it is in the front and back of the car, but I wouldnt put it on because of the weight.

Re: sunroof- not worried about weight, as I just like driving it- I'm not going to compete. And I'm not worried about sunroof problems any more than any other automatic system on a very complex car. BMW will either stand by their product if they all go gunny-bag later (as they have the squeaks and rattles so far on the older ones), or they won't, and MINI will get a terrible name. My take on it: those engineering the MINI did their homework, and the sunroofs won't be any more trouble down the road than anything else on the MINI. I'd be far more worried about a CVT, but that's just my opinion. That said, I have all 3 packages. Thoughts on favorite parts of each: MFSW a must (and regular CD sound system JUST FINE!); heated seats a very nice touch, w/ the sports seats a perfect fit for me and the wife; run-flats feel great so far (compared to ride of '90 Dodge Caravan
About the sunroof, mine works great. It's perfect in the spring and fall. I don't expect any problems with it. My 1990 BMW 325is has a sunroof and it works great and has never leaked. If anyone can do a sunroof, it's BMW. According to the MINI literature it doesn't weaken the overall rigidity of the car whatsoever. Motor On,

I love the sunroof complaint. What it comes down to is a lack of sack. Hey if you can't afford package #1 or the $800 for the sunroof. Just say so. Lets eee 1978 Trans Am (says enough already ......cultural background in question.....American car at its worst) The sunroof adds 60 pounds (give me a break) I only put a gallon a gas ata time in my Mini because of the weight. I like my Mini a little loose. I find it flows better in "J" turns.
The sunroof adds panache! When the sun is coming up onmy daily 36 mile commute I love looking up and seeing it stretch across the sky while IM hauling through backroads. You dont know what your missing! It also opens up the cabin and makes it feel even bigger!. I can't wait for srping to keep it open all the time.
Sorry about the rant but if I hear one more pretend "road course racer" talk about weight, I want to see a picture. (Chances are they need a treadmill)

I ordered everything except the S/R and ACC. I live in the mountains of San Diego County and we have 300+ days of sunshine a year with hot summers and falls. The fact that the S/R does not have a solid sun screen was enough for me. Plus I don’t care for the looks of the large dark S/R on the white top, the many squeaks and rattles I see listed on this and other MINI forums, the 60 pounds located up so high, and the S/R being so large I do question the overall integrity of the car; not from a safety stand point but from squeaks and rattles down the road as the car gets some miles on it. I didn’t order ACC as my wife’s BMW X5 has it and numerous times in the auto mode upon engine start up it fogs the windshield so bad you have to sit and wait for it to clear. My Chevy 2500HD 4X4 has manual heater and A/C controls and they work just fine. I have had navigation in other cars and enjoy playing with it, plus I don’t like the speedo located in the middle of the dash and with nav the speedo is relocated behind the steering wheel. PDC, rain sensing wipers and auto dim mirror are handy and inexpensive options. The HK sounds great, and the MFSW helps finish off having such a nice sound system.
Everyone knows what Sprog I has... so here's Sprog II's options.
IB/IB MCS - to be painted Austin Powers-style in a huge metallic Union Jack
Chrome Grille & Tailgate trim from a MC
MFSW
Lapis Leather
Cold & Sport packages
HK Stereo
Auto dim/rain senors
17" S-lites with performance run flats (which I'll change to normal tires when they wear out)
OBC
Fog lights
Xenons
Auto AC
Cool Bag
Boot Box
Rally Lights
Indoor Cover
Mini Travel Gear
Black Carpet Floormats
Future plans (besides the UJ)
New intake, exhaust, brakes & brake lines, racing chip, and better tires. Maybe some light-weight rims for when I do the One Lap of America sometime down the line, and a 6-toggle dash if I ever get in the mood to have it installed. Dealer said they could do it for $500.

ran into lady today driving indigo blu with all 3 packages. can't stand sunroof rattling open or shut. been to dealer 6 times with no avail. 12,000 miles on car. she's already cursing that giant oversized sunroof. it's been neg10 degrees to pos.20 degrees around here in northeast. she thinks she has it bad now, wait till she starts frying in the summer rays.
I have not heard of ONE person who hasn't had sunroof rattles. Minis have enough rattles as is (mine has too many, stereo doesn't even drown 'em out), who needs another? Not worth the money, IMHO.
Options I love: MFSW, heated seats, chrome inserts, fog lamps, sunroof (rattle-free so far), cloth sport seats, and the CVT in Steptronic mode (now that it has the 3.3 software upgrade)
Options I could live without: OBC (but it has been amusing to watch the temperature gauge go so low this winter, cruise control (only use it when I need to control my desire to go faster), and the heated washer fluid/mirrors.
Options I desire: gimme some of those rumored paddle-shifters for my CVT, please?

I plan to order my MCS with the Sport pack ala carte so I don't have to get the 17" wheels, plus MFSW, auto AC and Union Jack. I do not want the extra weight of the 17s and I do not want the sunroof. I live in Texas and each time I open my current sunroof both the inside of the car and I end up covered in dust and dirt! oh, and it weights a ton too! - like half as much as I weigh. so I figure if I'm going to be sitting in the car I best not have allot of heavy options adding more weight !!
