Side Marker Lights

Quick question! The side marker lights, not the ones in the wheel well moldings (4 of), but the ones in the front fenders that are surrounded by the little grill type molding (2 of). Are they supposed to be lit when the parking lights and/or headlights are on? Mine only flash when I use the remote entry to lock/unlock the car.

Or is this a programable option with the computer?

On another thread (MINI convertable with a Xmas tree in the back seat) has its side marker lights on with the parking lights on.

They work with the turn indicators (blinkers) and more then likely it's the flash that are making them look like they're on in that picture.

Can't you also turn them on when you've parked on the street as a safety thing? I don't think you can leave them on indefinately, but I thought I saw that in the manual.

I think if you shut off the car, then turn the turn signal to "on" (left or right) than the marker on that side of the car will come on.

The bimmers (and most german/euro cars) do that but sadly the Mini doesn't. I used to use that on the E46 all the time when parked in a narrow or dark area (having the front/side/rear lights on the outside would make the car more visible) and miss it on the MCS

the MINI does do that. try putting the turn signal on when the car is off. the side light will come on.

You're right! Weird, we tried it before and it didn't work - it was probably on the 03 MCS and then didn't attempt it again. Was it an anomoly or didn't the 03s do that?

dunno. i've only tried it on the 05 MCSC (actually, it was completely unintentional - i hit it on my way out the door and thought "what the..."). i'll try it on the 04 later.

Just went into the garage...

I was wrong. That is the only light that doesn't come on on the side of the car.

The front and rear markers come on as do the lights in the wheel arches.

Make sure the car is off and the key is out before you move the blinker stalk.

My 05 Cabrio does this... The turn signal light (bubble light) is the only one that doesn't come on.
