R50/53 06 MCS remote inop key
:impatient Hi all. First timer. 1 of my new remote keys does not lock or unlock the car. But can start it.
Is this a programming feature. does the dealer have to reprogram the key. Or is it a bad key. Or is this something I can do.
The #1 key works fine.
Let me know on this thanks
Guido

Try driving with it for a while and see if it "wakes up". The newer
keys are actually recharged electrically while driving (through an
induction coil at the ignition switch) and yours may just need to
be charged up. The ability to start the car is completely separate
from the remote operation of the key. There is a tiny chip in the
key which interacts with the ignition to allow the car to start. It's
about the size of a grain of rice and powers up when close to the
ignition, probably using the same coil, but is not powered by the
battery or capacitor (I'm not sure which) which is used for the
remote functions.
If after a couple of days of using that key, it still won't work with
the car then I would suggest you contact the dealer.
