If you view the video closely, the smart car stops moving forwards a little bit earlier than the S class, so you will experience more deceleration forces.

Its not as safe as a mid sized sedan in a crash, but I honestly believe it'll do good enough (based on all the crash testing) and the way a MINI can change direction in a split second definitely will help avoiding a crash in the first place.
everytime someone starts talking about the safety features of Athena and is worried about an accident i simply tell them get in and be quiet or walk usually since most of my friends are lazay they get in.
