You think so, I just think we ended up finding all the inconsistencies in his story. He made a pretty good example of how much you can lose on a lease, all while still bragging about the "great deal."

Sacrificed for the sake of the greater good, a more educated consumer car buyer and NAM reader.

Very good point. And that was the beatdown I was talking about, actually.

I mean, you can't just come into a forum full of knowledgeable car people and toss out some inconsistency-ridden story and not expect an almost surgical dissection of it, you know?

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.

Poor young man comes here & bares his soul asking for help. Then he educates us with his dazzling financial intelect & daring do. If one reads between the lines you can find the real secret to his success.

Say this in your best Cartman voice...MOM I WANT A NEW CAR!!! Mom says "ok sweety what color this time?" Gotta be true......I read it on the internet.

PS > I think we were feeding the troll here.

I thought the best part was when he posted the lease and then it turns out he got numbers on the lease that were about 9 to 10K away from the ones he threw out about the good deal the lease was earlier, loads of fun.

Inconsistencies in stories are my bread and butter on some days, his story compared to the actual numbers left a hole big enough to drive this BMW thru...

You are probably right, it looks like mom and dad leased a couple of new BMW's, got a terrible deal, but maybe it was a business lease, so they plan on writing it all off anyway, and our boy is still dreaming about a MINI for a H.S. graduation present.

HOLY COW! You're allowed 10K/year? Man, you put 43K on your Mini in less than a year! You are going to owe some serious bucks when you turn it in (or buy a high miliage car at the end). What were you thinking? Jeez!

You're going to buy a car with 129K miles at your current rate of mileage at the end of your lease or pay .20/mile over 30K!!!??? That's 19.8K in excessive mileage fees! I guess the next dealer will give you book value for that one too.

Wow... what a bitter individual. I guess I would be too if I had been taken to the cleaners. BTW my cousin with the 330xi was sitting behind when i gave those numbers... 500 a month and $770 in fees on his 2005 lease. Those are the gods honest numbers. You got a lousy deal, my cousin didn't. Simple as that. I could care less if you believe it or not but for your own reference at least now you know what a good deal looks like. Have a nice day!

The point that you seem to be missing is that after you've paid all that money, and made those monthly payments, you have two options:

1. Get right back into another financially unattractive lease
2. Walk out, and take a taxi home.

Because the dealership got all your money, and you honestly have nothing to show for it.

And I'm sorry, once again, I'll clarify. You seem stuck on the numbers here. It's not that at all(though yours are incorrect), it's that the beginning of this thread, you described your car has being modified(extensively so, mentioning how you'd hacked up the dash), as well as having a very high amount of mileage.

Yet, you for some reason expect us to believe that the dealer took the car back, no questions asked, no fees assessed against you for failing to adhere to the terms of the lease and that you just walked right into a good deal on a new BMW?

Preposterous.

He put almost 8 grand down and still has 550 a month payments!!! How can he even pretend that he wasn't screwed! I'm sure much of the 7 grand was penalties on the Mini. He must live in LA LA Land or something. Either that or he is in his "happy place".

Well, maybe you have bought a car or two in the 3 or 4 years since you got a DL, (this guy is all of 20 years old, you know).

All these 40-60K car buys from kids still make me think it's MOM's and DAD's checkbook that is getting pulled out every year. Hey, enjoy the ride, maybe when you join the rest of us working stiffs you'll remember some of the advice and try and hold onto your $$ a bit more.

I know no one could ever tell me ANYTHING when I was 20, it's good to see being a kid hasn't changed much, maybe we could spell and write a tad better, but what can you expect from our current school system?

Another old saying, "it seems the older I get the smarter my father seemed to be." Enjoy your RIDES, keep working, and take good care of the people in your life, OK?

PEACE. OUT....

It would seem that a large portion of the population (perhaps most) is what we might call 'mathematically challenged'. Most people only care about what that monthly payment is. It does not occur to them that the hole is only getting deeper.

The finance people and the dealers ought to be ashamed........

I think the point is you don't have the option to turn it in, you HAVE to buy it, trade it where the DEALER has the upper hand, or pay thru the nose. By the way, did you know there are more prices out there for a car than the sticker price? MINI seems to have made the sticker price the bottom line, but it's a lot different with every other model. To list a few, there is invoice price, there is dealer marketing support, there is cash to buyer support from either the manuf. or the dealer, preffered financing rate. Dealers can make different amounts of money on a car depending on when you buy it during the month or the year, because they want to make their quotas so that they get their allotment of cars for the next month. You can tell you are making progress if you are sticking to YOUR price and they start passing you up the "food chain" at the dealer. In almost every car deal, sticker price is just where you start negotiating, but HECK at 20 years old, been driving a cool 4 years or so, I forgot, you KNOW EVERYTHING. Idiocy and ignorance are two different traits. Ignorance is forgivable and can be changed. Idiots however seem doomed to live out their lives that way. Sometimes the School of HARD KNOCKS helps, congratulations you are well on your way to an advanced degree in that school. PEACE.

mm hmm. i guess i am an idiot then. I didnt pay sticker for my car, by the way. But yea i guess at 20 years old i must be an idiot. an idiot who makes more money then you will ever see in your life time. But hell i have other cars and if i go over my miles or not, if i trade my car in or decided to buy it. thats my problem and my preference, i dont need e-thugs to bomb me about my financial decisions, i buy cars because its fun and i have a passion for them, i just like the new and latest thing that catches my eye. Plus even if i pay sticker, i dont really give a **** a few dollars wont make or break me. I know how it is when i go out to give a customer and price and he or she says can u do better. i drop the price and they still do the same ****. Yea Hold on mr customer let me do the job for you for free and my bills will pay themselves.. I go in i like a car i know what invoice is i can see it on the tag i know how much options are and i know how dealers make money. Money is just material... then again if you say i over pay on my 330, then you can sit here and tell me i over pay on my MINI 6k down on 24 months 10k miles a year @187 a month.. my girls 05MCS was around the same price i put inceptions down because her dad co signed and has good credit so i got away with only inceptions and 444.92$ a month for 36 months. I actual had to put money down on my MINI first last year my rents credit sucked and i had no choice. I was going to finance the mini but with 6K they couldnt get her a 5 year, only a 2 year lease.. that i dont know why that is.. but like people say bad credit with money down anyone can get leased. with the BMW's same thing. If i could sign for my own car i would. but right now im not in the position because i cant get my own car insurance.. and with the new cars i couldnt get financed again. and once again they required money down and lots of it. thats not my fault. I had to buy a new work truck this winter too, and my parents credit just wont allow me to go out and get amazing deals on cars, they get anything from 11% to 20% interest rates. which i know really sucks, on the lease for the bmw we are @ 4.9%.. but anyway i bought a 2005 F350 super duty Desiel dump truck 4X4 with plenty of options the truck came to around 47K (Sticker), after 3 hours of sitting there, i wanted 5 year finance with 1000K down, they submitted the apps and Ford Motor Declined it. Although we sat there and finally ford said ok well finance them, i sturuggled to get to the right down payment but i had to put down 12K$ the truck came to 34,500.00 before taxes. and the interest is 11.99% for 5 years @ i beleive the payments are 536 or 535.. i didnt get a statement yet.. it came to like 38K with taxes and tags i think. so really when i want a new car, i do w/e it takes to get my hands on it. When i see something I like i try every possible way to get it. So untill i can get insurance, i know i have good credit where ill be able to walk into a car dealer ship and just SIgn and drive with either minium down or nothing down. but for now ill keep doing what im doing. and like i said before. just because the MINI/BMW dealership got me good out of my MINI, thats not my problem.. i dont knoww what they were spossed to do to either get money from me for miles or mods and what not. Maybe they screwed up, thats not my fault. I just asked for advice, then i came on and said, heres what they did. and i got bombed with nasty comments for something that i dont really care for and i had no control over, this is how things worked out. im happy and i am ok with my new purchase. But i dont know why you guys are saying 500 a month is too much for the 330. my girl wants a white 06 330xi and i shopped around to find one, and all the leases i have been given with inceptions only down whih ranged from dealer to dealer anywhere from 1000-2200 down and 3 year leases where between 670 to high 700's...
