The downside to that is that it doesn't look much different after you've spent hours waxing it either!

I think Cool Blue should go next. We don't need light purple and dark purple MINIs! Replace Cool Blue with the never-sold Candy Blue.

It was my understanding that Jet Black, Liquid Yellow, Chili Red and Electric Blue are all dropped for 2006. I agree that it seems like MINI is dropping the non-metallic colors to get the extra $$$.

I think one should be able to mix and match body colors and roof colors to further customize one's MINI. I would have liked a Pure Silver with a White roof for my first MINI, an all Pure Silver Cooper.

So far, I like the new "casket" color, Royal Grey. I'm taking Wanda in for some warranty work on Wednesday and hope to see an RG in the "flesh!" Maybe RG is the color of choice for zombies!

Nope, I think that is a rumor. From what I understand there has been zero custom color ordering for the Mini due to the demand on the production line (the high numbers they have had to churn out). Also, as bimmers are made elsewhere, it would not be simple to pull a car from the line to apply the BMW color. Maybe once the factory is redone for the 07s this will change, I'm sure they would not mind working in another way to make more money.

Two friends of mine have custom colored bimmers - not a cheap option esp. if you get them to order a full 'individual' package (with interior custom bits - his E46 M3 is Avus blue with Estoril seat inserts, looks perfect).

I've seen them both in person but not at the same time, and I wouldn't put AB in the same category at all. Carbon black has more fleck, it changes colors at certain angles and lights, and to me, just looks like an all around more quality color. I actually think carbon black is a misnomer - it is like the deepest blue you've ever seen sometimes then others it's black; it's awesome.

You're right though, we can't say unless they are next to each other in person.

I saw this list of sales figures by color on MINI2. I do not know how up to date these figures are. In fact it seems these figures are fairly old. My obsevation was that right around 8.5% of sales seems to be the cutoff. Most above 8.5% have survived (IB being the obvious oddity) and many below 8.5% have been eliminated. By this analyisis I would say orange, cool blue and purple would be the next to go. LY could also be on the elimination list but since it is a color exclusive to the MC the overall sales figure may be essentially an understatement (higher percent of MC sales). I can't see them eliminating pepper white even though below 8.5% and although this shows HB below the magic number I would guess that the elimination of IB helped HB sales. Although BRG is right on the bubble I would think that maybe tradition would keep it around.

Colour____________Number____Percentage
Chilli_Red__________1533_________16.6
Dark_Silver_________1425_________15.4
Indi_Blue___________1071_________11.6
Pure_Silver__________865___________9.3
Solid_black__________850___________9.2
BRG_______________811___________8.8
Electic_Blue_________772___________8.3
Liquid_Yellow_______485___________5.2
Pepper_White________382___________4.1
Hyper_Blue__________289___________3.1
Cosmos_Black_______268___________2.9
Cool_Blue___________90____________1.0
B_E_Purple__________90____________1.0
Velvet_Red__________70____________0.8
Astro_Black__________61____________0.7
Silk_Green___________57____________0.6
Solid_Gold___________49____________0.5
Other________________44____________0.5
Hot_Orange__________41____________0.4
total________________9253_________100.0
I realize I'm a little behind on this thread, and may have overlooked something that changes the above quote, but heck, I am proud to be one of the 41 Hot Orange owners out of the 9253 MINI owners!!!

MINI's are unique cars, and those of us who have Hot Orange are unique among the unique.

to name a few colors i'd love to see:

Nissan's Bay side blue metallic availiable to only the R34 GTR; a shade lighter than hb i think, but it is stunning in the flesh

or the extremely rare Midnight purple, which is a pearlescent metallic purple: probably one color i would love to have!

a REAL racing green would be nice:

and now for something a bit more..... unconventional, similar to krypton green of the elise, is the Lime Green by Honda, only on the NSX and the S2000 i believe:

Does this mean if you don't want to pay the extra $500 for metallic paint you can order your MINI with no paint?

Yikes

The multiple shades of blues and greys make me think that an IBM exec has taken over the color department at MINI. There are so many great colors out there you would think that you could get at least some variety especially in the MCS lineup. Hopefully MINI is listening and will offer a few more WARM colors.
Personally, that Honda Lime Green is a fun color, I'd go for that in a heartbeat!

Agreed .... we'll see some big changes to the palette with the new car, probably not many big changes 'til then.
My vote: a REAL orange ... like my old "Blood Orange" 911.

I agree...the monitors kind of skew everything. As a web designer I am familiar with that one.

One way to tell how different they are is to look at the contrast between the color & the black fender flares....RG is much darker, but that won't help with just how warm the color is compared to DS.

Of course, if we could get Imola Red, we would not be having this discussion!

I am not a red fan, but Imola is something all together different.....

I'll have to wait to see for myself in person, but my computer screen reveals them as similar

Oh, and to all of the banter regarding ///M colors on an MCS - SIGN ME UP TOO! I would certainly drop CR for Imola red, Laguna Seca Blue, Estoril blue, Avus Blue, oh man there are so many wonderful ///M colors, I'd even go for Cinnabar Red eventhough it's pretty close to Chili. Oh man, could you imagine an MCS in carbon black????????

The possibilities...

I agree....no offense to the Hot Orange crowd, but give us a non-metalic orange, one that fit is right between CR and LY.

Of course, the old E30 M3 Hennarot would be hot as well.....

How about a silver arrow version of a MINI, all sanded down to the shinning bare metal.

I think honda offered that green in the now defunct Del Sol. For some of us we sadly know that aberation as "the car that killed the CRX".

The effect might be something like this car found on MINI2 (with or without the flames) :

(I think this car looks great  )

Since this is in the 1st Gen Coupe forum, all the colors are discontinued since they aren't making 1st gen coupes anymore!

Of the current colors: Lightning Blue. They'll pull it and replace it with a barely different shade of blue in a couple years.

And Oxygen Blue. It might have worked on the small body of an R50, but I don't think it works at all on the new car. Maybe they can replace it with Candy Blue from the original MINI brochure.
