R50/53 06 Price Increase
This same issue came up during my purchase process. I ordered my MINI just about exactly one year ago. I received it On January 8, 2005.
As to whether they can charge you the extra $500 you don't need a lawyer - just read your order. In my experience it is not a contract it is an order and no price is indicated or there is language that gives them this out. Theoretically you can also refuse to accept the MINI when it arrives (If I remember this right). On the other hand an argument can be made about offer and acceptance creating a contract but how much would you want tp spend on a lawyer for a $500 increase?
I also understand that different dealers handle this differently.

"Production affected by this price increase include February and potentially January and December (unless those cars are wholesaled before March 1st 2006). Unlike the 2005 increase, MINI USA isn’t altering pricing for any options"
