How is the reqular mini in the snow?
Hi Mini flolks.... My friend Donna has taken an inrest in the Mini and she is trying to gather information. Here are some questions she need advise on.
1) How do they preform in the snow.
2) Are all season tires good enough in the snow and does the car come with a set of them?
3) Insurance pricing difference between the "S" and regular?
4) We read about DSC in another thread, what does this mean?
I am a SRT-4 owner and I am not a Mini buff so any info for here would be super.
Thanks a bunch & Happy Motoring!

1. My MC performed well in the snow. We are not talking lots of snow though, just a little. It was very predictible in its sliding.
2. Mine came with run-flats, they did alright but are not the best.
3. My MCS insurance is $3 more a month than my MC through Pemco.
4. I forget what it stands for. Dynamic skid control? Something like that.

1) performed great in the snow,
2) 17" s-lites with all-season runflats. they are heavy and make getting through the snow easier,
3) less than $10 difference b/t S and non-S per State Farm,
4) DSC = Dynamic Stability Control = traction control (you should get this and a limited slip differential when you order).

1-2. Mini's do perform well in the snow. Mini Coopers came standard with 15 inch all season tyres. If the Mini has the optional sports package, it came with 16 inch run flats that could be all season or Summer tyres. All season tyres aren't bad in snow, but the real way to go is with a dedicated snow tyre.
3. Insurance where I live (Northeast part of US) was about $20.00 a month difference between the Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S. Insurance company is State Farm.
4. DSC is short for Dynamic Stability Control. If the sensor mounted on the car detect a skid power is cut to a particular wheel until grip is detected. This is a very simplistic explination.

1. Great, assuming it's not too deep. In 12" snow it doesn't matter what kind of tires you have. They hang in the air.
2. My MCS has 17" all-weather run-flats, which are terrible in snow. I switch to 15" wheels and Blizzaks in winter.
3. No idea.
4. MINI's DSC is good. I've had traction control on previous cars and hated it. Also important is breaking; with the 4 snows, it's fantastic.
