Another fast MINI?

Some of you know I also own a Pontiac Fiero and am a member of some Fiero forums also. This morning, there was some discussion about MINIs (all good ) and the following link was posted.

Just thought I would share.

That's one wild looking MC (not MCS?!) race car. 375hp? Yikes!

MrsDiff and I had one back in 1990. 1984 2M4 SE. It had the best sunroof I have ever seen! MrsDiff's first winter in one and she spun out 3 times on ice. The only time she ever drove the car in wet/winter conditions.

Surprized yours hasn't burned up yet!

Actually, the 84 4-cyl engine was a really bad engine/car combination. I wouldn't base my overall impression of the Fiero on the first year 4 cylinder version of the Fiero. Typical of GM, it takes a few years iron out problems. Mine is an 85 6 cylinder. Much better. As a matter of fact, mine did burn up....after Mr Goodwrench serviced it....for a recall about 10 minutes after I drove it away, I had fire coming out of my rear. Seems, they cracked a fuel injector seal while working on my car. It was also the last time I ever brought my car back to a dealership for service. Haven't had any problems other than normal maintenance due to wear and tear since. One of the most reliable and fun to drive cars I've ever owned. I still have it but only drive it to car shows and show n shines now. If MrsDIFF had bought a newer version, she probably would have had a very different experience. ... and yes, I have spun my Fiero a few times in the snow ... while learning to drive the mid-engined beast in the snow. You just have to adjust to the balance.

Of course with 20 years advancement, I enjoy driving my MINI more. Improved handling and power delivery. But I miss the torque and that mid-engine feel of driving the Fiero.

Oh yes, the MINI community and the Fiero community have a lot in common. I enjoy both but am spending a lot more time with the MINI gang now.
