R50/53 Thinking about CIVIC Si instead of MINI!?!
Ok, I had a 2002 Civic SI and I traded it in on the MINI cooper. Don't bother with the SI. It is a good car and I really liked it but it is rather boring and does not garner any of the attention the MINI does. The Civic was great but if you get it you will regret it like I did. As far as handling is concerned the Civic is pretty good but not as good as the MINI. If you want an automatic the Civic SI is not even an option because it does not come with an automatic, only a five speed.

Upon reading your mind I now know that you want.......
I mean come on... how are we supposed to know what you want. It sounds like you've done your homework, you've driven both of them... which do you like more? I hate civics, it's my opinion, in no way should it affect your decision on the car that YOU are going to buy. You have to drive in it (I assume just about every day) so get what you like.
I love my MINI, hate civics.... someone else may love civics and hate MINIs who's right? Both of us. We like what we like., you like what you like.
If you want to know what our personal experiences are with the MINI just ask how we like it. I think it's a great car which initially had some bumps with certain parts (coolant tank) but seem to be worked out for the most part. (I have one of the new redesigned coolant tanks)
The civic can't touch the MINIs handling... however, you can probably squeeze more power out of the civic seeing as how long they have been around and how popular aftermarket parts are. Do you want a car that turns heads or a plain car to get you where you are going with minimal attention?
It's all a personal decision and you're going to most likely like what you end up with, no one can tell you what you want though.

p.s. I love the way the MINI can seem to brighten up someone's day by just seeing it

I don’t know why , but all the responses I have read from you are to the point, intelligent and informative. Keep up the good work. Thanks for being such a help at MCOL. By the way. I’m not great at putting my words on paper, but I hope you understand what I am trying to say.
Thanks

i think that the honda Si should get compared to the cooper S and that the regular cooper should get compared to the regular honda.....if your looking for go then you can't really compare the Si to the non supercharged cooper that's like comparing the cooper S in acceleration to the standard cooper
