R50/53 sell or not?
ok, i need some opinions...
i'd been thinking lately that i'd like to sell my mini and get a new one... i dont want to get into the reasons why but ill say that my mini has been very good to me. i would have done this already but i get a nagging feeling that i cant give her up... shes been a part of me for only 4 months but i adore my car and feel guilty about thinking about getting another one.... i guess its because this is the first new car ive purchased that i feel so attatched... but frankly im not very happy right now with choice of color and options etc, i kinda decided what to get in one day without really thinking about it. also the reason selling it would be so appealing is that i could get very close to what i paid for the car therefore only having to add a little more to get another one...
i dunno, what do you think? am i crazy?

Gald to see you got your pics loaded and sorry I wasn't
more help with it....but minor fender bender and racing all
weekend kept me busy.
I did what you are thinking about. I bought a chili red/wht
Cooper in 3/02. In 9/02, after 6800 miles, I traded the
Cooper on an elec blue/wht S and have no regrets. Each Mini
is special. I recently had a Cooper loaner Blk/wht with sunroof
and 15 inch wheels. It was sweet and I had a ball driving it.
Now with 6000 miles on the S I am in the constant grin stage
still. If you can come close to breaking even, go for it!
BTW great new sig line 1,2, and 3 I've got figured. Number 4
has me guessing....something you designed??

How "close" is "very close" in terms of what you paid? Some real data concerning resale at this point in time might be useful. Frankly, the cars aren't selling at the moment like they were 6 months ago, and the used MINI market doesn't seem to be exactly as hot as the "order your perfect car" new MINI market.
I doubt (but have no proof) that you'll take a bath on this if you decide to sell...but depending on how much you paid for the MC, and local conditions, you may end up losing more than you want.

2 minis, yeah i figured it out.. but thanks for your help
the 4th photo is the first table i made.
i spoke to someone at huntington mini and he told me that i could possibly get about $21,000 for the car. the 2002 mini cooper is going to hold its value more than the mercedes slk or clk, i forget which one.. so i could get very close to what i paid. well basically i paid 22,000 and even if i get 20,000 thats fine with me cause what i want is a little over 20,000. i just dont know...

by the way, the reason the guy at huntington mini couldnt give me an exact price was because i didnt take the car there so they could look at it. i've got a broken bumper right now which would have to be fixed in order to get that high of a trade in. if i traded it in right now with a broken bumper it would only get me about $15,000
if you just don't like the color, then maybe change colors if it really bothers you, but the used mini market in Phoenix is not what it was last year, can't answer for the rest of the country...if you are thinking about going from MC to MCS....even though I have a MCS I wouldn't make that trade, in fact if I had it to do over I would have bought the MC and had it tuned...a friend of mine did that and his MC with sport suspension is as quick as my stock MCS in a straight line and is actually quicker through the turns because of the weight advantage.....plus I like the idea of a spare tire and personally I like the looks of the MC better with more chrome and no hood scoop, but infortuantely you have to have the scoop...but that is just me as it looks more like the classic mini than the MCS...now if they come out with a RS Mini at 220 hp, then all bets are off, I'll have to continue to live with the hood scoop and no spare, laugh! Good luck!
I have seen some used ones here. Des Moines. No Dealer for 200 miles. The BMW Dealer is asking about 5000 over sticker for used ones, Maybe more. I told him he should be ashamed of himselfThere was a stripped S on town for a while. The guy started at 32000 last summer. I would sell the Cooper if I could get more than I paid. But I like it. The only thing I would change is add the cold weather package.

its the colors and the interior, plus i want manual instead of automatic. and i only want an mc i dont like the scoop on the mcs and its too expensive for my taste, plus the spoiler is hideous. the one i want now is cheaper than what mine cost. im only going to do it if i can get at least $19,000 for my car. if they want to give me less i dont think its worth it. i'd be fine even just having the roof painted white... that i could live with, but i dont know what that would cost and if its worth it. any info on that?

IMHO - If you can get into a new MINI, in the colors you want and not be over $2000 upside down on the deal - DO IT ! Because to me if you are within $2000 of having the MINI of your dreams, then reach out and grab it with both hands.
If you will end up more than $2000 upside down on your current loan, then I'd vote to wait a few months!
-- Don't worry, there will be 100s of people standing in line to buy a Used MINI from your dealer!
