I have been tinkering about becoming a MINI Motoring Advisor myself. The job for the most part seems to be interesting and if you have passion for the product you are selling, you should be able to do fairly well. I have no details in regards to pay structure, comissions (if any) or benefits but I do know that this job demands a lot of your time like any other auto salesman job. We are talking about at least 50-65 hours per week, including weekends, etc. My main problem with this job is the hours, otherwise I would have made a total career change and done it from a long time ago.

My Motoring Advisor says they don't feel so much like salesman, they feel more like Amusement Park Attendants.

I wonder how hard it is to get a job selling MINIs. If I didnt have a career already I would probably look into it just so I could get to play with all the new MINIs.

Salespeople in general get paid 20%-30% of the gross that they make from their car deals, as well as finance products, such as ext warranty, gap, window edge and etc. are extra gravy. Mini MAs should be getting paid handsomely because they do not discount the cars, and for those who are selling over sticker, should be experiencing fine lives.

But again, every organization have different pay plans and structures, this is based on the GM dealership that I work at. I finally showed my identity , I am an internet manager, our deal is way too different than the salespeople.

I have couple of friends, that are MAs, and they all seem pretty happy, dunno how much they make or their pay plan, but they work pretty hard, though, putting up with all our BS (come on, let's face, we are kind of high maintenance customers ).
The bottom line is it is the a lot of fun, great product, mostly cool customers, might try in the future.

PS: Lexus salespeople make the most

I don't know what a Motoring Advisor makes, but I did call my dealership once, and one of the advisors answered the phone and said "Thanks for calling X," a business that was not the dealership. "Oops," he said, "sorry about that, that's my other job."

Not a good sign if you're thinking about a decent living I suppose.

This may not apply in this case but an old addage is "the best way to get disenchanted with an institution is to join it."

Sometimes keeping your hobby your hobby is best........ that being said the counter to that is " find what you love and do it"

I'm just glad I could clear that up for you:smile:

I know an ex MINI owner that is now a MA ... according to him, they make about $200 give and take in commission on each bare bones sale of a MINI ... of course more with dealer add ons.

Used MINI sales might make you more ...

There is only about $1500-$2000 dealer profit on a regular MINI sale.

OK, then, here goes nothing, hope I don't get flamed or anything, but.......I do work for a MINI dealer , as a part-time MA.

Please understand that each dealership is independantly run and organized. Therefore, the pay scales and such are all different. Per car pay varies WIDELY ! Salaries very WIDELY ! in fact, everything is changeable and different from one dealership to the next to the next, etc...so, on interviewing, pertinant questions along those lines are very relevant.

An MA who is just a bump on a log can probably make $50K per year, as a warm body.
Someone who works their butt off to bend over backwards and serve the customer's every little desire, etc.... the sky's the limit! No lie. However, beware, that does depend on the dealership.

So, voila, any questions? I do not look here too frequently, so if you do have questions, please remain calm because I will not answer instantly.
If instant gratification is your thing, try me at aol IM : MINI1600.
Cheers,
Peter

Ok that tears it. I am going to work as a MA. Or maybe I will join the circus. Or I can be an astronaut. Well enough dreaming. I need to get some sleep so I can go back to my boring job tomorrow. Although it is kinda like a circus the way they run things.

 The two MAs I dealt with at Long Beach MINI in SoCal split their commissions. They cover for each other and are great guys. I dealt with one for MINI #1 and the other for Wanda. They both came over from the BMW side at the introduction of the new MINI in 02, and guess what? Now they both own their own MINIs!

I know they each have several cars in addition to their MINIs. I'd say they're making a very nice living selling MINIs. I've thought about it since 02, and realized that it might take some of my enjoyment of MINIdom to sell them, so I stopped daydreaming about it.

Hey, C4.....I figured you were selling them already....LOL! J/K!
