very easy indeed i feel there must be somethin' wrong w/the ones that dont work properly....plus it jus looks a ton better than the standard big ol ***** IMO fits the high tech look of the interior & love the way it looks like the 'mini wings' (climate control buttons & temp. ****)

I really thought it was an extremely easy to use feature until this thread

LOL Then do this...

Put on LOW (which should turn on the AC). Then press AC to turn it off and shut off the car. Now turn the car back on...

Maybe Ian/gbmini can design another circuit.

(I hate the Auto-On A/C as well). I'll have to check, but does this only happen when you turn the A/C off (car still running) then restart the Auto? Or does the A/C come on automatically if you've left it off before you turned the car off, then turn the car back on?

As I said...with it set to LOW rather than a temp, it turns the AC on automatically when you start the car whether it was on or off when you shut it off. All you have to do is keep it set to 60, and it remembers.

Kaelaria,

Just for clarification, are you saying that leaving the temp at 60, does NOT turn on the air, and only allows the outside air to come through with a low fan? At this time of year, I don't need the A/C but would like some fresh fall air to vent through the car.

with the temp at any actual number, it remembers your setting. So yes if you have it on 60 and the ac off, it stays off. That's how I run mine every day. When I need ac I just press auto and get chilled. Normally it's on 60, fan on the lowest setting, windows down.

MINI should include this thread in their operators manual. Other than the "look" I have not been that infatuated with "Auto" AC. A $300 look at that!! I actually think I fiddle with it more than I did with the ole manual set up. Tis hard to teach an old horse new tricks.

Still another question not covered on the manual

I've never had to deal with the auto climate control in cold weather since I got my baby just this summer. Does it matter whether the A/C (snowflake button) is on or not if it is cold outside? Even though the button is on, I still feel heated air coming out of the vents. The reason I'm wondering is because it's odd to have hot air with the "snowflake" button lit. For now I am trusting that despite this being on, the only goal of the system is to get the temperature at your desired setting and that the compressor will not switch on if cold air is not needed. Is it safe to assume this? I wish the owners manual was clearer.

If the light is on, the compressor is on. If the air is warm it just means that it is being routed over the heater core. There are times when it is cold outside that having the compressor on is a good thing. Like when you are using the defroster, so that the compressor can remove the moister in the air.

Thanks Steve. It initially seemed counter-intuitive and energy inefficient to have the system cool the air only to warm it up again (during cold outside temperatures). Based on what I understand from you response, this process serves as a dehumidifier so perhaps this "waste of energy" may have some redeeming purpose .

since there seems to be a good crowd of ACC (automatic climate control) experts on here the other day when i was checkin' to make sure that what I replied to on here was correct i noticed that when u have the 'ACC' on the car seems to have that parasitic accessory drag (hope thats correct) feel more so than when ur runnin' the ac w/ACC* off and using the AC in normal setting/not via ACC*....

so has anyone noticed this b4 or is it all in my head

Wouldn't the above make sense since the compressor isn't being run? Thus not being turned by the engine?

Edit - Er, nm, guess I didn't understand what you said the first read-through =)

Dunno why that would happen. I wouldn't think having the ACC functioning as normal, would behave any worse than having that same compressor running in Manual ACC mode.

Are you suggesting there's more drag using the acc than just ac? I can't see why? I thought it was: compressor on = drag. Compressor off = no drag. At least that's been my impression.

Anyone seen this? I was coming back from lunch and had the car on vent only with the auto controls. I decided to turn the AC back on and the readout went nuts!!! First it went to double zero and no amount of playing with the buttons would change it. UNTIL all of the lights on the thing came on and now it either has no readout, or it reads CA or CC.

WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?? I can't change anything on the system now!!!

I'll try that. I just called my dealer and they think it might be a bad climate control unit.

Sigh....it's only been with me five days.
