Speedometer Problem

I have searched the forum and have not found this one...last Friday as I was driving to work, I looked at my speedometer at it registered 70 mph - I knew that I was not going over 55 - it was strange. When I stopped my car, the speedometer stopped at about 18 mph. When I got back in my car about 4 hours later, it still said 18mph. Once I got home, I disconnected my battery and it reset the speedometer.

Now is there any reason for concern? Has anyone else had this problem?

he didn't specify which speedo was reading off
(the one which toggles with the temp or OBC
or the big one)

did you attempt a gauge reset test in the infamous TEST menu yet?

that may reset your gauges.

anyone have a link to the instructions?

what i had to do was take the whole thing apart still plugged in... start her up and set speedo to zero then reassemble her. once that was done the next few trips it will be off when you back up but eventually will work back correctly.

Reset worked with battery disconnect, but

It did reset when I discontected/reconnected the battery. I am concerned that there may be a problem that will resurface. I only have about 1800 miles on my MINI, so I will check with the service manager, just wanted to have all available info before I called them! Thanks.

Thanks for the info - I am still under warranty, so I will be at the dealer to look at this issue.

My speedo often says i'm going 8-10 mph at a full stop. Recently I was on the highway and going 80mph. Cars were flying past me and I was passing noone.

I took it to service and they said they could replace it if i wanted. Now that i think its wrong I will take it back to them.
