Good Performance Benchmark

I just raced a new Volvo V70R. We both had women in the passenger seats, A/C on. Both were DEAD EVEN through the top of 3rd, I was amazed! I have an '05 MCS, JCW intake, 15%, plugs and MTH Tuner. It was from a normal start, no slipping of the clutch or spinning whatsoever. Slow let off, then hammer it. Neither of us even during shifts, which were almost identically timed, moved more than a couple feet one way or the other.

The V70R is rated at 300HP, 0-60 in 5.4, although that is obviously with a very aggresive track-style start, not street.

...and did you operate said vehicle in an appropriate and reasonable manner while observing all applicable motor vehicle laws and regulations?

I think the V70R you raced was me!

Very cool that you noticed it was an R! Were you in a blue mini cooper s on 580 in oldsmar? I also noticed the chrome line interior? I was on the way to the USF game. I actually had 4 guys in the car. My car is a stock 6m. I didn't get the perfect launch I wanted, and I wasn't really trying at first - as I didn't want to scare my two uncles in the car, then I heard your supercharger. I was very impressed with the mini staying with me - as were the other guys in the car. My buddy in the front seat said: "Damn! That cooper isn't loosing an inch!"

I'm ordering a MCSC in silver pretty soon - I had almost talked myself into the MCC, as it will be a toy for me and I was trying to keep the funds down - but after seeing what your car did I'm definitely going to have to go with the S! Hopefully I'll see you around at some mini gatherings -

I just checked your gallery, and it was you!

The wheels gave it away. I remember commenting to my pal about them when we pulled up to the light. Nice -

You're also right about the 0-60 time - the only time I can come close to that number is when its below 30f outside and Im the only one in the car. I also have to turn the DTSC off, and rev to 4k and slip the clutch quite a bit.

How the heck did you find this V70R? Hehe, very cool that you did though. I bet that's quite rare, to post on a board about a race with a random stranger in a non-Mini, and have that stranger find you? Hehe, what are the odds! =)

Aww, Clo... you spoilsport! I for one am glad he posted it in MINI Talk, because I found it very informative... if it weren't for the "moved" placeholder, I'd have missed it.

The original poster is talking about his MINI, and how it performed. The driver of the other vehicle complimented the MINI's performance, and talked about his own pending MINI purchase.

If that isn't "MINI Talk", what is? They're talking primarily about MINIs! The fact that another car is also in the discussion doesn't change that.

I misinterpreted kaelaria's opening remarks! I thought he meant he raced the Volvo, as in driving it.....LOL! My bad....I'll move it back to MINI TALK. Thanks for the nudge, Edgie!

I agree as well that this definitely is "mini talk", as Kaelaria was definitely directly comparing the the performance of the MCS to that of the volvo.

Its also pretty funny that I saw the post - I check this board every few days or so looking for info on the MCSC. I'm very close or ordering one, and this board is a very cool wealth of knowledge that is pretty mature as forums go.

As for the volvo, it is a turbo. Its a 2.5l 5 cyl turbo with 2 intercoolers, and awd. I wanted a wagon that "could keep up with traffic" and this certainly does. The only other wagons with manual transmissions that I could find (in the same size/performance range) were the Audi S4 avant (which was too small and expensive) and the Saab 9-5 aero (I had one previously, and wanted a change - also no awd).

Kaelaria - Im curious as to the ballpark $$ spent on your engine mods, as I'll proably go a similar direction with the MCSC. I can't justify the full blown JCW kit, but I want to give it a little something extra.

nice! how would you compare your wagon to a LegacyGT Wagon with
the same 2.5L size motor with turbo and AWD? and how would
that comparison between the subi theoretically compare to the
MCS? (trying to keep this thread within topic while i dig deep for
info on Legacy's. )

I drove a legacy and it was a very nice car for the money. I liked the volvo's 4C suspension (adaptive 3 position suspension), and the solid feel of the car overall - very much like a MCS. The subie was as quick, but it didn't feel as refined - it was $15k less than the R though.

At the price though, you could throw in another $5k and have an MCS and the legacy for what the R goes for............Which is pretty tempting!

cool. thanks for the comparo with the LGTW,V70R, and MCS. that
makes sense though, the LegacyGTWagons were probably targeted for
the regular 'family' and for the regular joe who want a comfy sus than
a performance setup. with the 15k i 'save (?)' i guess i can use that for
sus mods down the road to tighten things down.

the V70R sounds more like the A3Wagon V6 Quattro territory...

That's SO cool! Yes that was me!!

Great run!!

Even more impressive - I didn't see the other rear passengers - your whole car was like a black darth vader-mobile

As for my expenses they are VERY light, and all I plan on doing in the near future.

Pulley, Alta 15% $106 shipped, installed for $296 at Downtown Mini
MTH Tuner and cable $~480
Plugs (not needed after all) $12
JCW Intake (same as any others even cheaper) $400

So $1288

I've got a pretty dark tint on the rears - I think its 18% formula one film. I've got 28% on the front windows.

That is a pretty good return on the money you spent on the mods -

Do you have any problems with the local dealer with any of it? I haven't heard much either way on if ferman mini is mod friendly or not.

It was a pretty good time - My uncles and pal were still talking about it today -

Ferman happens to be extremely mod friendly, and the head tech, Pat, does installs on the side when he has time...which is not very often.
