Alarm System???

I had the alarm system installed (before I get flamed over the "uselessness" of the alarm with the "unstealability" of my car, just know that my room-mate's care was broken into twice over the past year... I'd like any deturance I can get), but I cannot for the life of me set it off! My guess is it was installed wrong.

So, if you have the alarm, can you set it off? What does it take to set it off, and what does it sound like?

I've set mine off twice, once on purpose and once accidently.

I jacked up one side of the car to take a wheel off in the garage without disabling the alrarm (I forgot it had a tilt sensor). After lifting it about an inch, it started beeping loudly.

The second time, I set the alarm with the windows down to test the motion sensor. I let the car sit about a minute and then stuck my arm through the window opening and the alarm went off.

If your's isn't going off then I'd take it back to the dealer and ask them to check it.

1. Get out of MINI.
2. Leave dog in car.
3. Turn on alarm because you'll be going inside the building for 10 min.
4. Listen to your alarm go off after a minute because the dog decided to get in the front seat and move around.

Happened to me. Yes, I got the alarm too. I'm paranoid like that I guess. I see you live in the Springs too.

Alarm System

When closing the driver's door don't close it all the way, press the lock button on the key fob and it will make a loud beep. When the door is closed properly there will only be the flashing red light on the stalk to alert you if it is on or off. Mine is an early 2003 so it may work differently than yours. As some of the other posters have said leave a dog in the car or just activate it while you are sitting inside. You'll know in a hurry if it's working as soon as you try to open the door to get out.

Hope this helps...

No, I don't think all Minis come with an alarm. Mine is a later 05 MCS. It did not come with an alarm. I had the alarm installed at the dealers. Come to think of it ... I've never had my alarm go off. After reading the these posts. Going to check it out and make sure it's working properly.
