15k miles on my '2 MCS with 5 or 6 nicks the latest a week or so back from a cement truck 2 lanes over to the right in Canton. Fortunately(?) the chunk glanced off the top of the fender before leaving 3 nicks in the glass. Scared the cr*p out of the missus.

Thanks for all the replies. We don't tailgate and I leave plenty of room between our Mini's and large trucks, follow someone else by them if possible or get by as quickly as we can. Both times rock came out the side of the truck as we were passing. Bad luck I guess.

Looks like we'll be contacting a glass company in town to see about a PPG replacement instead of the factory one.

I didn't realize this was something that could be fixed under warranty? I'm assuming because it was a stress crack, and not a chip?
My mini cought a nice sized rock from a semi right at top dead center, on top of the rain sensor. looks horrible!

Had my windshield replaced in August due to being hit by a rock thrown from a dumptruck. Then yesterday, heard a big crack against my window and saw this dot that looked like another crack forming. I was not amused. When I went out to check, it turned out to be a dead bug and was able to wash washed it off with a bit of elbow grease.

But I'm always paranoid now whenever I'm behind a truck or SUV.

'02 MC got a "rock star" on the way home from getting the windshield replaced at 50K miles.

'05 MCS has one "rock star" after 2.4K miles.

'03 with the original windsheild. No stress cracks, but did get starred from a rock on the highway a few months ago. It's not really in the driver's field of view, but it'll get replaced before the next inspection is due in '07.

I bought my mini not exactly used... but before i took it home, my dad had them fill a hole in the windshield. About 2 months later i spot a HB/W mini going down the road and make my way behind him... for whatever reason, he decides to gun it... on a road that was just being paved. Got a nice big chip.

Have a few nicks from debris that hits me, and half the time i can't figure out where it comes from... but i always duck

Come to think of it, I do have one chip from a car passing me going the other way.

at 1000 miles

Have an 05 MCS bought new in April 05. Got the first star at 1000 miles about the size of a quarter.

The second one came along at about 8000 miles. That one took a one inch long chunk of paint out of the top of the bonnet and a smallish chip in the windshield between the wipers.

The car has about 13,000 on it now and the windshield looks like it's years old. Pitted and chipped everywhere. Bad glass? Weird windshield angle? Low car?

I have had a couple different 10-20 year old MGB's, FIAT spiders that never had this much windshield damage. And they all had many more miles on them then the MCS has...I have to agree with previous posters, I think the glass is in them is soft but the design of the car seems to add to the problem as well.

Just got chip on 3rd windshield

Yesterday while driving on the freeway I got hit by something. Didn't make too much noise, but whatever it was it was enough to chip my windshield. The mark is pretty small (less than dime sized). I am going to have it filled right away and cross my fingers that it doesn't spread and turn into another window killing crack.

This is my third windshield and it is PPG glass. My first two were OEM.

Don't know if you have rain-sensing wipers. I seem to remember that PPG windshields didn't support that in the past. Maybe they make one now that does. I hope so, because I'd like to replace mine with a PPG when the time comes (and I'm sure it will), but I don't want to give up the rain-sensing wipers.

Also, given the history of MINI windshields, you might check with your insurance to see if you can a lower deductible for glass damage. I think I'm only out $50, for a windshield replacement, or whatever window glass is damaged.

My windshield has taken quite a few direct rock hits, no cracks or stars, but lots of small chips and pitting.

Here you go, a busted windshield acquired on August 7th on the 4th of July Pass. Nice fresh chipseal, 55 mph speed limit, me like a fool driving at only 60. Did pretty well until a truck driver in an awful hurry passed me about 80. I pulled over and slowed but the gravel blizzard wreaked havoc. I figure as long as the crack spreads toward the passenger side I'll wait until the roads clear in the spring to fix it. And I have touch-up paint on the way.

Superstition is for wimps and excuse makers. I still have a bad ECU flash from the dealer, I wish I had my V32 back, but other than that it’s still the most indestructible MINI I’ve read about here.

I had one huge chip out of the windscreen before I was in my head-on accident. $3500 damage, but the windscreen didn’t crack. It took out the hood, driver’s side front quarter panel, radiator and AC condenser along with loads of minor things, but no windscreen.

Other than the ECU flash the only problems I have encountered with my Aug 02 MSC have all been self induced and I can blame no one for them other than myself.

I’ve got a great, but chipped windscreen and I can live with that fact because if I’m going to drive my MINI, ***** going to happen to it and I'm proud of that.
