New Colors for 2006

I was wondering if anyone has seen the Solar Blue, or the Royal Gray yet? Color chips in books or inside the dealer just don't look the same as paint in sunlight on the curves of a MINI!

I am also considering a Silver roof. Anyone seen any at their dealer with one?

Production for 2006 has not started yet, so no one, at least on this side of the Atlantic ocean, has probably seen a new 2006 MINI wearing the new colors. 2006 model year production will begin Thursday, September 1st, 2005.

I have seen the color demo "chips" at my dealership and Solar Red is the one I like the most.

Ask your question over at www.mini2.com as the Folks over in the UK may already have seen the cars in the flesh.

Check out my gallery. There's a picture of a checkmate MINI in Solar Blue with a silver top as well as a solar grey MINI.

Flip Paint Spotted

I saw a new convertable the other day in flip paint! It was wild to say the least every time it turned a corner it changed colors.

Is flip paint offered in the states or was this a cutom paint job. Over here in England BMW provieds a custom paint shop when ordering your new Mini. You can get anything you want for a mere $8,200.00

July's Go Mini magazine has a story about a new cabriolet with flip paint -- looks like a dark gold -to- eggplant finish if you can trust the pics. It's striking in the photos, and I'm sure they pale in comparison to the real thing. Lots of performance mods too.... anyhow, the car featured in this story was a custom job.

I'm sure the dealer would do anything we wanted on this side of the pond for a price.

Is it just me, or is MINI getting a bit drab on their color choices? And why so much color segregation between MC and MCS, and hardtop and ragtop?? The '06 color palette doesn't do much for me:

Man - blues, browns, grays. . .looking more Buick or Bentley than MINI. . .

C'mon, MINI - give us back the bright, fun colors!!!

EB spiced it up some... they need brighter colors.

AND SOME PINK, jeez.

If you really want pink, just get a Chili Red, strip the wax, and let it sit in Arizona for about 6 months. . .it might be a bit chalky, but it'll be pink. . .

Speaking of new. . .

New to the S line up is Astro Black. And while many have lamented the passing of Jet, I have a question:

If you download a desktop off the configurator with AB selected, it looks like in bright light that the metallic might make it look almost silver.

I'm skeptical of MINIUSA's color matching, but intriqued. Any AB Cooper owners want to comment?

I thought it looked more bronze/gold when the light hits it just right, but I only saw one or two dusty ones at the dealership, so I can't really comment on what a nice detailed one looks like. . .

I live just 40 minutes from the manufacturing plant, have been here now since April. I really believe the color palette they have chosen is due in great part to the majority of 'grey' weather over here.

Sounds to me like an even better reason to have brighter colors - to brighten up that part of the world (as well as ours) and make it a little cheerier!

I couldn't agree more. Of course, I'm a fine one to talk, owning a DS/B and all. . .but in my defense, I bought this one 'pre-owned' so I didn't have much say so on the color. . .

Limited Hues

I don't know if Hue is really the right word , but the '06 options are generally more dark than previous years. At first (and I still do), thought there wasn't enough contrast in the new colors. But, maybe MINI's thinking is that they wanted contrast with previous years not just within a single year. It would be nice if yellow, lighter blues, even gold were still available.

Oh well! Mine's gonna be Space Blue!

Just bumping this ancient thread because it's the only reference that I could find to the BMW Individual or Dreamtime or Python FlipFlop or whatever where it was a dealer option to have some crazy prismachromatic paint...

...supplied from the factory in black and painted at the dealer?

Seen:
spotted this morning,
so it struck me curious as I've never seen or heard of it before.

$ $ $

Wow rare finds. Its like dealer add ons. We did not have those here, most of the time back in the day people of the Gen 1 MINIs would get custom paint and interiors and have the dealer do it for them before delivery. Katskins leather/ special paint or body kits, I have seen $52K dealer stickers for MINIs back in 2004-2006. They would get that extra printed sticker that would go on the side window in addition to the factory window sticker.

Used to see these at the dealer. Now its rare. That one shot above was at a dealer.
