R50/53 Where did the color go?
and so I did order a Hot Orange MCSC. I think it's a radical color and will turn a great many heads. Especially when I get the body kit & custom paint added. Y'all have to wait until I get Icarus and then get all the work done before I can post pix.

Color is the perception of the frequency of light reflected off an object's surface... a Candy Apple Red MINI absorbs all frequecies of light except that which we perceive as red. A white MINI would reflect the entire visible specturm of light and black absorbs the spectrum.
So, I would argue that white is all the colors of light combined and and black is the absence of color... in your eye.

I never imagined that a discussion of colors could turn into a lesson on what is and isn't color. All I know is that I REALLY like all the different colors posted and agree that MINI should immediately adopt all of them.

You are debating color of light vs. pigments - which are virtual opposites of one another as Mini03Tiger84's statement begins to explain. You are both correct!
The misses and I are extremely dissapointed that Solar Red is only offered on MC, and not MCS or MCC (of course not MCSC).
Very dissapointed she is. He other choice was jet black to match mine, but now she can't have that either.

It seems that the MC has better color choices than the MCS. No offence to MC owners but I think if you are buying the most expensive version of the Mini you should have the better color choices or at least have access to the same choices as the MC.
Liquid Yellow was my 2nd fav color (I own a chili red MCSC) & I was hoping to buy a LY hardtop once I get my convertible paid off. If I had the money right now there is not one single color available on the MCS that I would want (as I do not want 2 chili red minis)
When viewing Royal Grey on my computer monitor it looks like it should be called turd brown, haven't seen it in person, hopefully it looks different in real life lol

If something absorbs all the light that hits it, it will appear black, and is in fact transmitting no color (although it will have an ifrared 'color' based on its temperature). If it transmits everything, leaving it with no 'color' of its own, it'll be clear, not white. Only when something absorbs and retransmits all the visible wavelengths of light can it be white. Thus it is white that it a combination of all colors. Or at the very least, a fourier overlap that stimulates our retinas with the same ratio of red, green, and blue as the sun's spectrum.
And I just want to say, I really liked the solid gold with a black roof, and am disappointed that it is gone. They really need something that looks a bit more brownish. Like the royal grey on the website (as opposed to the royal grey in person, which, IMO, looks like anthracite reformulated for outdoor use.)
i saw a color that would look great on the Mini. It was on a Saab.
Look at the green in these photo's. The photo's don't do it full justice it's much better in person) I saw it the other day and thought I'd buy a mini in that color...

i have to agree...
i was looking to order an 06 MCS in solar red before i bought Sam's replacement... im sad to hear that they dont offer it on MCS!!!
oh where did the colors go? the whole point of owning a great little car like a MINI is that you can customize it to make it yours... silly BMW does not understand this....
i do agree that an orange should be available on the hardtop S's but id love to see something more along the lines of a dreamsicle orange...mmmm
and what is with taking away all the bright colors for dull ones? killing the BEAUTIFUL electric blue in favor of the new blue (cant remember the name)
and while an LY car would not be MY preference, i do miss the option. the MINI is one of the few cars that looks GOOD in yellow!
and what on earth were they thinking with the new gray??? PS and DS are both great colors but silver and brown mixed together? ick.
lets revolt... and demand the return of our colors!!!

Another vote here for putting the fun back in MINI colors. Ripping off the Toyota Camry palette for '06 = uncool. And it should be a crime to have dropped Liquid Yellow. Though I didn't spec it for myself, it's one of my favorites.
I'd like to see fewer metallics. I'm all for a solid orange. Bring back yellow. A solid BRG would be nice. And how about a nice Bianchi Green?
