Is this normal?

Hey everybody,

My '05 MCS has an interesting quirk, and I wanted to see if it was normal. Whenever either door is opened, the CD player will try to eject a nonexistent CD. The eject motor cycles for about three seconds. This only occurs when there is NOT a CD in the head unit. If a CD is present, all is quiet.

Thoughts? Is this normal? The stereo is the standard MINI AM/FM/CD player. No modifications of any kind.

Thanks!

That's not normal!

I'd leave a CD in there all the time and bring it up with your dealer at your next service

Sorry I don't have anything to offer but to leave a CD in the deck, but right now, as I type this, Greatbear is probably composing a long-winded but completely thorough description of the known history of this problem, its causes, and both DIY solutions as well as official MINI technical service bulletin fixes.

Just be patient and the famous Greatbear will be here shortly!

Actually on the '05s it is normal. I hear the motor cycle whenever I open the door. But it doesn't eject a disk even if there's one in there...

I'm wondering if this is Normal as in "supposed to happen" or normal as in "an flaw of every '05".
