Here's the deal... I've got this cool looking dark silver S with the aero package. Four thousand mile into our relationship and the paint on the front is "chipping" off at an alarming rate! (visible white spots) The dealer who installed the kit advises me this is not unusual and accepts no responsibility for the integrity of their paint job.
The interesting part is the other three cars in the "fleet" without the aero kit have twice the milage with no signs of paint chipping.
Question: Is it normal to expect the dealer installed kit to be less durable than the OEM bumper and, therefore, am I being unrealistic to be upset with their position? :???:

I have the Aero kit installed on my MCS and I don't seem to have any paint problems at this time. I've had my MINI since Sept 02.

Hi,
I recently had all of the black plastic removed from my MCS and had it painted to match. Similar to painting the aero kit I would assume. When I picked up the car from the paint shop(someone I trust, he shares work space with my cousin), he specifically told me he called the paint manufacture that he was shooting onto plastic and made sure that the warranty would hold. He told me that he anticipated no problems but if there were I should be covered. I don't know if this info helps but he made it sound like that the paint manufacturer would back the product.

Jon

Having the same problem with the paint on my aero bumper chipping really bad. I'm going to bring it back to the body shop the installed it after my accident, I'm assuming there is some sort of warranty on the paint job itself. I'm pretty irritated that after only 3000 miles it is extremely bad looking, as is mentioned befor, all sorts of annoying chips in the paint. I have a feeling this could be just the start if its already happening. Has anyone found any a clear bra or anything to stop this from happening?

And don't let them tell you it's due to the fact that the aero dam sits lower than the stock front end. I've got a lowered MCS (1.2" in front), so my front is lower than a stock with aero. Granted I'm not painted, but I see no indentations in the plastic. Just something to think about.

I'll definitely keep that in mind, and even so, the paint shouldn't just be chipping off like mad. Besides, I never saw a warning anywhere that said, "don't drive your car in the Northeast." I'm steadily getting myself pissed off.
