I think some ages ago, there was a post as to what kind of 'greeting' MINI owners could give each other as they pass on the roadways. Coming from a Wrangler, I know that other Jeepers typically give a peace sign or wave...definitely, some kind of hand signal. Since there are 5,000+ members on MCO, can we agree to a universal salutation? Two suggestions (perhaps somehow a tally could be kept):
1) Hand signal
2) Quick flash of lights

What do y'all think?????????

After reading some of the "Politics" thread may I suggest?

Thumb to Nose - while wiggling fingers.

There's one in the MINI brochere.
Quote: "WAVE TO OTHER MINI DRIVERS. We know you don't have to. But if you're the type of person we think you are, you might just be inspired to do it anyway. When you're heading down a street somewhere and you see another MINI, give the driver a wave, a nod, an "Oy!"*, an index finger flip, a peace sign, a mock salute, a tip of the hat or, if close enough, simply yell over "Hello." He'll appreciate it, you'll feel good about it and the world will be a little friendlier. At least amongst MINI drivers.

* Note: Only use this phrase if you're British. Otherwise you'll appear as a poser and that's very un-MINI.
-End Quote.

Someone actually gave me the 'surfing-hand' wave out the window the other day in some beat up truck. Guess he must be either a MINI owner or a soon to be MINI owner.
I've been using them all. Salute, thumbs up, surfing-hand wave, headlight flash, etc. The peace sign seems kinda old and flower powerish. Totally outdated.
Cheers,

I always wave at other MINI drivers! I make eye-contact, smile and wave! If they see me, they do, too!

Sometimes, MINI drivers seem like they're in an altered state and unaware of other MINIs on the road. I can relate to that. The first two weeks I drove MINIclo, I was in SUCH an altered state, my hubby had to keep pointing out other MINIs to me! I was too busy enjoying motoring and getting to know her!

I prefer mooning passers-by if I'm not going too fast.

(It's hard to follow the moonin' comment!)

I signal other MINI drivers with a double horn honk and a thumbs-up. Usually get a thumbs-up back. Never the finger.

Now just suppose you're not IN your MINI, but in an inferior mode of transport like the SO's vehicle or a friend's piece of junk?

You WANT to wave, but will the MINI owner think you're a fool?

I thought about holding up my ignition key, as if to say, "SEE, I HAVE ONE TOO!"

>>The peace sign seems kinda old and flower powerish. Totally outdated.

The first weekend I had my car, I let a friend drive it for a few minutes on Cape Cod. A girl in a New Beetle gave us the peace sign, and he totally cracked up. He asked me if that happens a lot, and I said it was the first time. Hasn't happened since...

I always flash the lights and wave at other MINIs. Have yet to come across someone that hasn't responded.

How depressing is it that Verizon has turned the peace sign into one of their corporate commercial logos?

mwbmini - This is a particularly good question in my opinion. There seem to be many owners that have a MINI as their "toy" and not a daily driver that this would pertain to also.

Trouble is, there are only so many positions and motions one can do with the hand - and all of the ones I can think of already mean something else. Also, holding up the key is not always quick and easy (I imagine the women frantically digging through their purses...).

Unfortunately, although I see the dilemma, I have not yet come up with a suggestion to bring to the table.

::Tightens thinking cap::

Hummmm....well, it sounds like (from ALL respondents in this thread) ALL MINI drivers are doing something to acknowledge each other. And, that's a good thing.

Normally I wave and flash my lights.
Most people around here that drive MINIs are very responsive. But there have been some that have ben real jerks...which to me is not a MINI mentality. This one time there was this guy who was getting into his Electric Blue S down in Canton. I was walking down the street with my roommate. I said..."Hey I LOVE your car! Mine is parked right around the corner! Aren't they fun?" He looked at me like I was crazy and got into his car and drove away without a word. I mean, seriously...if you are going to have a MINI you need to be ready for comments and attention. He was just a jerk.

(I STILL get stopped by people all the time who have questions and it's been almost 5 months!)

about a week ago i was driving from ny to ri and i saw another mini and was going to wave when i passed but the woman in the other mini put down her window and stuck out her arm and waved. it was very sweet, it made me smile.

Just a word of advice though....don't get a live one.
Before you know it they are telling you how to drive,
what to say, how to dress, etc. It gets annoying. Go
for stuffed!!
