2005 5 speed Mini Cooper Transmission Super Smooth

I have been very impressed with the shifting in my 05 Cooper. I thought it would be somewhat sloppy feeling in a front wheel drive car.To the contrary it has been silky smooth. Ratios seemed to spaced perfect for the 115 hp engine. RPM's might be higher than expected in fifth gear but it is perfect for passing when you are running the interstates. I understand that before 05 another 5 speed was used. 1500 miles and Gas mileage has been 34.5, 36.8 and 35.1. Not bad for a new car!

You're right, the Getrag 5-speed box feels super! I've been very impressed with the test drives I've had in 2005s. My Cooper has the earlier Midlands box which I have had no complaints with at all. The Getrag unit is a little notchier (in a good way) and probably an improvement (for a variety of reasons) over the older unit. From my perspective, overall, the 5-speed Cooper package is perfect little motoring machine...and stirring the gears is a big part of the attraction. I'm afraid driving it every day has only heightened my enthusiasm.
