Question for MiniClo

Did you keep your silver MINI when you got Wanda? If not, did you find it hard to give up your first MINI? I am considering doing the same, but I'm worried about the emotional impact. I am so attached to that car. What a MINI nut I am. (btw, I know of you from the roadfly board that I looked at a lot in 2002 when I was waiting for my MINI to be born.)

Thanks for any info!

I owned a solid and reliable 2004 MCS which I kept and babied obessively for 16 months and 17K miles (Bought new). I originally ordered the car in January 2003 and finally arrived not until October 2003. At the time, waiting times were in the 6-10 month range.

I loved the car and was very attached to it, but when the 2005 MCS came out with the improved transmission gearing, more power, burbly exhaust, etc I test drove one and knew this is how the car should have felt/tuned all along. So I decided to put an order (This was late January 2005) and sold my car fairly quickly a week or so after that. Felt a bit bad, but the car went to a loving home so I knew it was going to be in good hands.

Finally I took delivery of my second MCS in Late March (2 months ago).

My wife has a "Classic" 2002 Cooper CVT, which we ordered late June 2002 and took delivery September 2002. We have many good memories in that car and has been mostly troublefree for a first year issue model. The car currently has 30K miles and it is her daily driver. We are planning to keep it for at least another couple of years or until MINI releases the Clubman station wagon. We both enjoy the car and have travel a lot in it. The car has been babied and still looks brand new inside and out. Most people think the car is only a year old when in fact it is almost 3.

Yes, I think it will be even harder when the time comes to sell/trade her '02 Cooper, but sometimes you have to move on in order to "gain" if you know what I mean.

The 2005's are very sweet cars and I highly recommend them. They are more refined, more carefully built and generally the best MINIs ever IMO.

Don't be afraid to change, you won't regret it.

I also went from a 2003 MC CVT that was VR/W. I had very mixed feelings about getting rid of this MINI. I had it for 2yrs and only had 17,000 miles on it. I loved it. It had alot of mods that I took off as they did not help the trade in value. Removing the parts was pretty hard to do and putting the MC back to stock was pretty rough. It was pretty hard dropping it off at the dealer before my MCSc came in. Then when my MCSc came in and my MC was still on the lot. It hit my wife worse as the MC was a CVT and she drove it once and a while. She does not drive the MCSc. But now after a few months I love the MSCc and have bigger and better plans for MODs. Something that you wait for and then giving up is hard but you adjust. Give it a try.....

Hiya, rwd! I traded in MINIclo (the name of MINI #1, thus my MINI-world username) when I took delivery of Wanda. It was a super-hard decision, too.

I had hoped that hubby would want to keep her, but it wasn't to be.

I didn't decide what to do, whether or not to take delivery of Wanda, until I got the call that she'd been delivered to Long Beach MINI. Once I sat in her, that was IT....I had to have her!

I would have gotten more money for her if I'd sold her myself, but I was preparing to leave on my first cross-country roadtrip, and didn't really have time to deal with the looky-loos! I found out later that a nice gal from Corona bought her, so that made me happy!

Now, I hope that my hubby, Rick, will want to buy another MINI at some point. I'm totally thrilled with Wanda and just modded her at the Dragon: Alta 15% pulley and Unichip install. Also, she got groovy new graphics: chrome bonnet stripes and a silvertone metallic Union Jack sunroof flag!

She seems to like a little makeover every so often!

Thanks for your great input, it's really helpful I also bought my MINI in Long Beach. They are the ones who gave me an MC40 as a loaner car and got me thinking about this. That was so fun to drive!!!
