Mini envy

I have to share a quick story. I have only had my Mini for about three weeks but hardly a day goes by that I do not get a "cool car" comment, or some other apreaciative gesture. Last week I was driving in a neighborhood when a lady honked at me from behind and them pulled up beside me at a stop sign, rolled down her window and said "Where did you get your car? I have been looking for a dealer and can't find one in Ausitn." I told her I bought it used and the nearest Mini dealer is in San Antonio.

But here is my best story. I was at the car wash this past weekend in the vacuum stall. Next to me pulls in one of the all time greatest, most desired sports cars in the world... a Shelby Cobra. Well this guy gets out of his car comes over to where I am and says. "Man, I love your car." Well, we get into a nice little 15 minute chat and I give him the tour of my MCS. To be polite of course I quized him about his car as well.

I have owned many cars including a C4 Corvette, but NEVER one as fun or that gets as many comments as my Mini.

I have had my Mini for about a month. I have had more people walk over to look at the car at the wash or the pump. Nice conversations, they just want to take a closer look for themselves.

Happy Motoring - Fred

Seems like the more rural the area, the more attention and positive comments you'll get on the MINI. Mine never attracts in Atlanta, rarely in Chattanooga, but it always does in small towns. Maybe there are just more car people in small towns...

Sweeping generalization in 3 - 2 - 1...

It's OK to make conversation with strangers in small towns

My favorite comment (from a "country-type" guy in a pick up truck, going through the Jack In The Box drive-thru): "Can you buy them there things in this country?"

I just about busted a gut!

From a neighbor's wife when I first got mine:

"Ooooh! You got one of those Italian cars!"

That's pretty cool. There was some gathering for Shelby Cobra's the other weekend near by and all the guys gave me a while I drove past their parking (gathering) area.

I thought maybe they like the stripes??

That was good.

It is good to hear something positive, and like Hammer said it can be a cool car club.
I had almost forgot that the Mini is a cool car and it is fun to own – I got stuck in all the negatives with the people that have modified their cars, and all the vendors that have been bashing each other, defending their products etc..

Yea, the Mini is a cool car and it can be fun to own.

Thanx for reminding me.

I had a guy give me an enthusiastic thumbs up the other day. Wasn't the first time, but it WAS the first time that a stereotypical pimp did it. I haven't seen that many chains since the A Team went of the air...

it's fun to see kids reactions to minis (they love them) and it's great to put a smile on a child's face but the funniest reaction i've gotten (keep in mind i live in Mississippi) is "what is that?" like they'd never seen such a creature before!

I live in a "smallish" town an hour south of Merto Atlanta. There are about 10 Minis in my town.
The other day, I was at FedEx and the guy next to me asks me about Sting, (where to buy, how much, do I like it, (duh)).
He asks if he can see how big it is on the inside. I say sure and do the remote opening of the top and windows from the FedEx counter. As it would happen, there was an older lady walking by when the top and windows started moving. She jumps back from the car and, drops her FedEx stuff. She starts peering around the interior of the car, (empty). She's looking around for the driver of the car looking scared.
I walk out with the other guy and I aploigize to her for scaring her. She said she thought the car was evil because it scared her so.

Funny story! Shame on you for scaring the nice lady!

But, even if a MINI was possessed by Satan himself, it would still be cute.

WOW. You don't see a classic Cobra like THAT every day! I like the combo (and as a city dweller, I'm jealous of your garage), but I'm a little confused...

Which is your "fun" car?

Well this doesn't involve a Cobra, but it does involve envy:

Some mornings I stop at a donut shop in my neighborhood and the place is always busy. There's one table in the corner where a regular group of senior citizens tends to congregate. One of the ladies in this group LOVES my Cooper and when she sees me at the counter she yells out across the shop, "Oh, where's my favorite little car!" I smile....point....and all heads turn. "That's the cutest little car!!" she adds, and invariable they ask about who makes it and where. This happens e-v-e-r-y time I go in the place...and the same conversation ensues about where MINIs are built and who makes them. Maybe they forgot we already discussed this, or maybe they have nothing better to talk about at that moment, but this little dialogue happens e-v-e-r-y time as well. Needless to say, I make sure my MINI is looking good when I go by the donut shop. Gotta represent!!

It happened again

I'm loving this car. So today driving to lunch I'm stopped at a red light and about 6 or 8 Harleys pull up beside me. Now I also own a Harley so of course I am checking all the bikes out. The bike nearest me has a stone cold gourgous biker chick riding it. She motions for me to roll down my window and says that she loves the car and has been looking for one. I tell her that the nearest dealer is in San Antonio (again) and she thanks me. A couple other of the bikers give me a thumbs up.

Life is good.

I share the same sentiment about the MINI. It's just fun to drive. I find myself driving the MINI way more than the Porsche 996 TT X50, that sits in the garage most of the time.
