ok so lets go over a few numbers... overall numbers they might be a little off it will give you an idea...

the mini i mean MCS

mini 0-60 = 7.2 sec
911tt 0-60 = 4.0 sec

mini 1/4 mile = 15.3 sec
911tt 1/4 mile = 12 sec

mini top speed = 135mph* limited
911tt top speed = 194mph

mini HP = 167 hp
911tt = 450 hp

mini price base = $20,000
911tt price base = $112,000

i know this numbers might be a little off... but just by lookin over them you can tell a 911tt is about 3 to 4 times better car than the mini.

oh.... i forgot one thing, a very important one. lets say you are my age (25) anf you are into the lets see how many girls i can get some from.... (me)
well u drive a mini and i drive a 911tt.... do we even need to answer this one? hehe

bottom line is the 911tt is one of the best car money can buy for the price and so is the mini
but the 911tt is a much better car then the mini overall

now for an everyday driven car... please give me a mini! at almost $3 per callon of gas soon one might not be able to pay the monthly payment on the 911tt b/c you spent it all in gas!

by the way I love my MINI COOPER S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and well if i could afford it i would have a 911tt in my garage for weekend drives

996TT X50 is indeed a powerful monster and scarily fast. The ideal environment to fully appreciate and utilize the car's astounding potential while maintaining safety of its surrounding is probably at the race track. Although the 996TT is relatively comfortable to drive compared to the previous 930, I feel that the car is somewhat a waste to drive in the congested city traffic, where the 996TT appeared to be like a greyhound on a leash. Hence, the mighty MINI might be a better choice as a daily driver. Best of all, the MINI is FUN to drive at a bargain price.

(Except school grounds, watch out for children hahaha ) The Turbo, you can't use that kind of power at all, really. That engine is pretty much IDLING when going around corners at the same speed as the MCS. NO FUN! Not just that, all the gears pull like the last one. In the MSC, you gotta work the tranny to keep the revs in the best range! Thats FUN right there! Also, i think the Mini is more eyecatching

just call me Clarkson of TopGear . i was the stig for both cars

cheers!

Really? My friend and I were comparing my MCS and his '89 NA Mr2. The MINI is just a slouch compared to the quick revving and low gearing of the 2. We've both driven each others cars and agree that the MINI has that thing called torque that the Mr2 just doesn't have and you need to rack it out all the time. I feel like the MINI's gearing is too tall and throttle response is horrible (I really think if we were sitting at idle out of gear and floored it to redline and let it go back to idle, the MINI would be at redline when the 2 was about back down to idle ). The Porsche has the power to get up the revband even with high gearing and you definitely need to be careful about it . It's not exactly a gear car for the street.

They're just two completely different beasts. The MINI is a daily driver that handles great and can be taken out and have a lot of fun in it. The Porsche is a race car that can be driven on the street. A sharp corner the MINI can take at 40-45 mph probably isn't suited for a 400 hp beast but your not going to see a MINI on the track doing things at 100 mph+ that a MINI just couldn't do. In their own, they are both great cars but it's just impossible to compare them.

The tall gearing of the MINI is no longer an issue on the 05 models. The redesigned gearing ratio of the 05 resolved this complaint of many MINI owners. After driving an 04 and an 05 MCS back to back, the 05 is noticeably faster, mainly due to the gearing.

Just the fact that we are comparing the MCS to a 911 of any model/era with some real thought says a lot about our little car.

Its all about price vs. performance....there the mini definately wins.

Also...you get what you pay for!

...and like they say... There is no substitute.

We get MORE than what we paid for with the MCS.

hold on people, we are getting to the part where camel says that numbers dont mean anyhting, and that the mini is lighter so it can take a 911TT.

I will quote, it's much more simple:

"..oh, and for the record, I'll take my Camel over a 911 Turbo any day of the week.

You see, I prefer the car that moves when you think it to, not when you need to push, shove and kick for it to do something.

The MINI moves with my mind, like it's a part of my body. When it comes to agility, king kong aint got sh*t on MINI."

What? We owned an 88 SC MR2 for many years. the SC MR2 was 0-60 in 7 secs (stock). My my 04 JCW, i know, is faster.

Now, the better question that everyone loves to talk about is which is more FUN to drive ... hate to say it but no contest, the MR2 rocked. Shifting was SO much smoother, so much quicker and there is nothing like hearing that SC whine right in your right ear. Whats not to like in a two seater, mid-engined sports car. No contest, SC MR2 wins ... in fun to drive. Acceleration .... MCS.

Then came the 1991 MR2 Turbo. No contest, the two seat turbo at 210 HP would eat my JCW in a heartbeat. 0-60 in 5.9, 150 top speed easily. To bad they dont make them anymore. Fun to drive? No ... bigger heavier, the first model, SC model, was much more fun to drive and the one we kept for 10 years.

I guess that depends upon your definition of "fun"

Unfortunately, I cannot afford a 911Turbo but I have owned a 911 and there is NO CONTEST. Is it harder to drive ....OF COURSE. As they say "Racing improves the Breed" or "There is no substitute" or whatever.

FUN is hoping that rear engined tail dont come around and figuring out to handle that beast. No contest, MINI is a wannabe. I like it a lot, other wise would not have bought it ... but given the money, you got to be kidding

This is troll, right?

I have no experience driving a Porsche Turbo, but I think the saying is true: It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

And as I always tell people who ask me if my MCS is fast: It's fast enough to have fun, but not so fast that it will get me into trouble. (knock on wood)

I'm sure the Turbo is a helluva machine, but like Camelpilot I'll keep my MCS.

It was the 0-60 in 3.9 seconds one. Very very powerful car, very fast. All wheel drive, very fast on corners, but it really didnt do it for me. My Cooper S is a better **** - i mean drive, hands down.

/hugs Camel.
Well.. I think you are nuts. I'd take the 911 in a heartbeat. But... one of the things that makes the mini so much fun is the low cost of entry.
If I had to buy a 911 turbo, I don't think I would enjoy it as much.. Too much to worry about.
The mini is fun, inexpensive and unique, but the porsche is a race bred machine without struts, FWD and has lots of torque... whats not to like? err... besides the price tag...
