Yes, 2500lb for a Cooper seems pretty reasonable, whereas that for a MCS required me to lighten my wallet by 1000s of British pounds (equivalent.) I'd say under 2700 for a MCS requires ordering it with few creature comforts and ditching the Slites at the very least. Of course most of the weight I dumped (pun intended) was rotating mass in the form of brakes and wheels. Oddly, I didn't intend to go the weightweenie route, but a friend with a fully loaded MCS JCW always commented that my car seemed "zippier"--and now he thinks maybe it's the weight, as the mods should be pretty equivalent (sort of...)

The owner's manual states that the curb weights of the MC and MCS with manual tranny and all optional special equipment (what does that mean, exactly?) are 2524 and 2678 lbs, respectively

There is a scale for vehicles at a recycling place near my parents house, so whenever I'm near by with one of my vehicles I throw it on there to see how much it weighs. I can't start making serious weight reductions to the MCS until it becomes our 2nd car and not our primary
So perhaps in a couple of years when my wife is done with her PhD the MCS will go on a diet
My 5-speed MC has very few options, no sunroof, and only fog lights, heated sport seats, sport supsension +, and cruise control for options. Add every option available, and I'm sure it would tip the scales at around 40-50 lbs more.
As reported elsewhere on NAM, a stock class autocross prepped MCS (manual trans) weighs 2510-2530 lbs. That is with minimal options, minimal fuel, lightweight wheels, and a lighter exhaust, but full interior and basically stock everywhere else.

There's a thread elsewhere that says the sunroof weighs 80lbs more, which is a double penalty--more weight and it reduces the structural rigidity of the car. In the desert southwest it's like tile floor--you put it in your home for the resale value, not because you actually *want* to be 10deg colder in the winter...

I went to the local recycling plant. With a 5/8 tank of gas it weighed in at 2590 lbs. I don't have many options and the 17"s I'm running are 2 lbs less per rim than the standard 16" v-spokes.

According to the results of a Google search (i.e. the truth) a US gallon of gasoline weighs 6lbs. Hence you can adjust weights for dry, fully wet, half wet, etc. A full tank (13g) should add about 80lbs, then.
In the bicycle world, in which I've lived for 25 years, we use carbon fiber primarily to save weight since structurally almost any material will do (steel, titanium, aluminum, magnesium, bamboo). Doesn't seem to be the same in after-market mod'ing of cars--the CF parts weigh about as much as the OEM stuff, so just adds bling. That's good, because it's cheaper to throw away the backs seats rather than replace them with CF ones!

I think I'm gonna weight my '06 Cooper. When I spec'd it, I decided to go light (don't like sunroofs anyway) & went with 15" holeys, 5sp manual, no sunroof. Then went stainless My Mini cat back & saved a little more. My MC chirps the tires on the one-two shift and feels quite lively enough for my driving, while returning 31 mpg tank after tank. I'm guessing about 2500 lb.but would like to verify

Yes, your MC could come in pretty light, by MINI standards! Regarding the chirp on shifting, I keep failing to get mine to do it, and a friend with an 06 JCW MCS does it often--perhaps it's the tires. My Falken RT615s are pretty sticky compared to his runflats.

CF is bling, thats why F1 cars are built out of Carbon Fiber. They're all about the bling.
But a lot of CF stuff is bought for looks....
Not many people are making CF hoods or hatches.... but you sure can buy a bund of CF stuff for trim! Not my style, but lots is sold....
Anyone do a CF roof yet?

My 05 MCS on the day i bought it with a full tank of gas (drove 1 mile to the scale after fill up) weighed 2720.
LSD, Sunroof(i like sunroof's), and Xenon's.
So far i've replaced the 16in V-Spokes with 13lb rota's, Brakes with Lighter Wilwood BBK's. Also have a lightweight battery still waiting to be installed along with one ball. Hopefully i'll be able to get it down to about 2640 with a full tank.

Since Thameth has raised the issue... I specifically indicated replacing OEM parts with CF. An F1 car, or a Ferrari Enzo or (insert name here) has CF by design! These vehicles are incomparable to our MINIs. Our cars come with very little OEM CF--usually as optional mirror caps or dash covers)--and the bonnet on a MINI is non-structural unless I'm wrong about the strength of those two little clips near the headlights... As the Dr indicates, there were few CF bonnets ever made, and fewer on cars today (many broke). They are not especially lighter than the stock bonnet. I'll challenge anyone to list any structural items made for a MINI that weigh less than 80% of a non-CF substitute. The only one that might even come close is a CF front shock mount strut, but having seen the M7 one, I'd go for it any day.
I'll stick with my original claim: CF on a MINI is for bling, pure and simple. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I took my Cooper to the dump and weighed in at #2620 with me in the car. Subtract my weight (#160) and you get #2460. I had just about 1/4 tank of gas in the car, and everything that wasn't bolted in was removed (floor mats, spare tire, tool kit, glove box contents).
Schroth harnesses were also in the car, and they add at least 4 pounds together.
I was running on 17x7 Kosei K1-TS (14.1lbs) with 215/40R17 Kumho MX's (20lbs).
I do have all 3 packages available in 2004.

Looks like I-5 at about Federal Way?
Nice idea.

2006 JCW MCS
heated seats
xenon lights
cloth/leather seats
sport chrono
16" Kosei K1 wheels with winter tires (18" JCW wheels/runflats add 32 lbs to the total)

Weighed the Batmini last weekend in South Boston, VA at some truck scales near my Hotel, when I was down for the Tony Nuzzo VIR event.
2806 lbs.
Only things in the car outside of the norm were 2 CD cases (10 lbs each), and 2 lawn chairs (10lbs each), so take off about 10 pounds for random assorted crap (radios, stuff in glovebox, etc...) and I'm looking at about 2750 with 3/5 tank of gas, and no people in the Mini.
05 MCS, sport, cold, premium package + LSD.

They're beautiful, and the fit and finish is top-notch, but I don't delude myself that I'm saving any weight with the CF parts.
