R50/53 "Normal" wear and tear?!
It is my new undercover name!

I haven't yet steeled myself for the phone call asking about warranty repairs, but I'll report back once I make the call.
And just for the hell of it, I am going to go check out the '05s. If resale values are still as absurd as they were a year ago, I might make the jump. For the record, though, my main reason would be the new Getrag 5-speed, not this cosmetic stuff.
Thanks!
Chris
P.S. C4 = Cooper4Us, or am I on crack or something? I can't keep up with everyone changing their usernames!

Checked out the '05s in the showroom today (and drove a cabrio!!!
). Honestly, the only materials changes I noticed were the seatbacks, the new all-plastic shift **** (bad), and the 3-piece dash (shrug). The doors have bigger armrests now (
), but the exposed 'T' part still seems to have the same coated silver finish on it. Maybe the anthracite cars have anthractite crossbars? It appears so in the catalog, but I'm almost positive I sat in a showroom car with anthracite dash and ellipticals, and silver crossbars.
Oh, one other thing - the steering wheel center cap is no longer glossy and delicate, but in my eyes that's cancelled out by the pale-colored, matte finish "leather" on the wheel itself, which seems like it's going to pick up stains like nobody's business. I often drive my car after running, biking, hiking, camping, etc., and with this new wheel I'd feel like I needed to keep a box of handi-wipes in the car.
I don't know, besides the obvious improvements in the seatbacks, I'm not impressed. Am I missing something?

Did you drive it?
Also cars with anthracite trim will have the dashboard, center downtubes and door tubes finished in antharcite.
Cars with colored dash trim (MCS only) will have the center downtubes and door pulls finished in bright silver.
Cars with Alloy Patina dashboards will also have the center downtubes and door pulls finished in bright silver.
I have seen photos of MCS with color dashboards and anthacite center downtubes and door pulls. I am not sure if that can be specified in the order or that is something not available in the US market. Not sure at this time.
I think test driving the car, ties the experience together. The new cars feel so much more solid than the early ones, its unbelievable. get a feel for the 5-speed Getrag and check back with us.

I did drive a cabrio yesterday, which was (of course) unbelievably nice. As far as the gearbox goes, it's hard for me to compare because since my car has a short shift kit, the new stock gearshift feels very tall and wobbly. I was only driving on city streets, but I hope to get to another dealership sometime this week (maybe tonight) for a better test drive. The car definitely felt tight and solid, but it is brand new. I look forward to a more comprehensive test drive.
