One was an in-house MINI newsletter where the ASC question was answered in response to a past inquiry. The newsletter is meant for employees but the info was on the same subject matter.

The other was with the help of Mark to his sources at MINIUSA, he made several inquires. He did not disclose his source but he felt that reasonable effort was made to find the answer.

I will contact Motormouth to pass along the follow up to Claude Bruni.

This is true, in fact interesting cause I was just readin up on this in the manual earlier today. According to the manual DSC contain the functions ASC,ABS,CBC,EBD.. so with DSC off you other fuctions are either very limited or off althogether. Pg 60 of '04 manual.

My 04' MCS and 05' MCS don't have DSC so i have an ASC switch i can turn on and off.

The LSD is a mechanical part inside your transmission that will send power to the wheel with the most traction during cornering or acceleration. So when your accelerating out of a corner and you don't have LSD you will usually "light up" or spin the inside tire, wasting energy and loosing time. An LSD will send all the power to the outside wheel and pull you out of the corner.

If the ASC is toggled off the wheels spin,if on they don't.
In deep snow I toggle off,as some wheel spin is a good thing.
Other wise it is toggled on.

Once more, CBC, EBD, and MSR are all braking functions--not traction control functions. They are incorporated in ABS (Anti-Lock Brakes). ABS, and it's sub-functions are NEVER turned off. Nothing can disable ABS or its functions.

The toggle switch will turn on or turn off TRACTION CONTROL (either ASC+T or DSC), but your anti-lock brakes (and those sub-functions of ABS) will always be on, forever, and ever. Toggle until your fingers fall off your hands and you stomp them into your carpet, but you will NEVER EVER be able to toggle off Anti-Lock Brakes, Corner Brake Control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, or Engine Drag Torque Control.

You can not 'partially' disable your ASC/DSC (as equipped). Those functions will be toggled COMPLETELY ON or COMPLETELY OFF.

Too many people are confused by all the acronyms, and the fact that the module that controls traction control ALSO incorporates the functions of braking, which on MINI's is four-channel ABS standard with CBC, EBD, and MSR.

If the acronyms are getting confusing:
CBC--Corner Braking Control
EBD--Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (*sometimes called EBV)
MSR--Engine Drag Torque Control

^^^^ That is completely TRUE! ^^^ Good work explaining it.
