R50/53 Wait List
Wow. I'm LUCKY
I'm in SOCAL and I called a few dealers and got the standard story. So, I went down to Santa Ana - Crevier MINI http://www.creviermini.com - and talked to Martin B. I'd been talking to him for a few months when I found out that they would be opening their dealership.
I introduced myself, told him i'm very interested and yadda yadda. I said i'd come in for a test drive and i'd like to give him my specs. I faxed it over a while ago and he said -- received. I kept talking to him about every two weeks and then went in for my test drive. [had to wait since i have a lease and i would cry if i couldn't take a car home within a few months] Anyhow... i asked him - where am i on the wait list?
He told me -- we have a HUGE waiting list, but I'm taking new orders. We split up the wait list and have called everyone asking if they wanted to order. If they don't order, they are still on the list, but we take new - orders all the time. I asked how many cars they are alloted per month -- 30 - 35/month.
I put my deposit and order in on Friday July 19th. I'll get my # in a few days and we go from there. I will know my production date soon, but I'm looking for November delivery personally so it's cool that the wait is around 3 months. He said Xenon headlights will take more time. If I wanted the INDI blue S, it would be longer w/the Xenon headlights.
I'm getting a Pepper White Cooper S w/not all the bells & whistles, but enough to make me quite happy. They will add on the "dealer package" but you do get "options" for that - paint protectant/ LoJack/extended maintenance. I haven't signed any paperwork yet - i do that when the car comes in since I don't have to take it when it arrives if it's not exactly what I want.
Hope this helps. Call around and ask quesions. A lot of places just tell you thier list is huge. Phoenix had a 1 year + waiting list for the Cooper S. LA area is usually a long wait, but maybe I just got lucky.

To anyone interested that doesn't want to wait (like Me) just about every Mini dealer in SoCal has a car or two for sale "on the floor". Even non-Mini dealers have them. There are 2 at Beverly Hills BMW and 2 at Beverly Hills Mercedes. Beverly Hills Infiniti has also had a couple. They all seem to be brand spankin' new. The ones I have seen are all over MSRP but, if you want one now. . . . . . .
