PS fan continues to run

I've got an SPK power steering pump fan installed with about 20k. I've recently noticed that after shutting down but leaving the key in the 2nd position; I can hear the PS pump fan continue to run until I turn the key/ignition to the 1st position or completely off. I don't run the A/C. This happens occasionally after a 20 min drive - regardless driving in town or on the interstate.

Is this normal behavior for the PS pump fan?

Thanks.

Its only runs when the engine is really hot or tracked, summer time heat. If its cool outside and its running all the time with No a/c on then something is telling the fan to run. Pump could be it or something else. Did you scan it?

No codes.
Yeah - it's been 90° hot here.
Although I've almost never run the A/C since I've owned my Mini (22 years)...I've sometimes wondered what triggers the PS fan if not the A/C?
Thanks for the clarification and supporting link!

If the powersteering pump electronics start to fail your ps fan could stay on. Worst case also when you turn off the ignition completely. This happens when the brushes of the ps motor wear out and that dust gets onto the electronics. I once looked into rebuilding a ps pump and most of the time its a short between one of the two mosfets. The behaviour is it either shorts out and the ps pump never turns on or is always on. Intermittent could mean you are not there yet.

But all that besides, I would guess right now it's because of your high air temp. Keep a close eye on it's behaviour though

I'll definitely keep an eye/ear on it.

Since having bought the car new (2003), we had the PS pump replaced twice while under warranty and twice (again), after when received several recall notices in the mail. In either case none of these pumps never failed. The last one was replaced (under recall notice), in 2010 @ 48k miles. Just took advantage of the free recall as a preventative measure. I'm now @ 125k.

Yep mine worked on and off, then the power steering pump just failed. I had the recall done and had one more but at almost 300K.
