R50/53 High unstable idle. Red hot exhaust.
High unstable idle. Red hot exhaust.
Hi guys. In a bit of a pickle with my r53 cooper s which has just had a replacement head fitted. The car seems rather reluctant to start for a couple seconds. The revs go to 3k when it does start. Then the idle speed is roughly 1500rpm and seems to ever so slightly decrease when I let the engine heat up which doesn’t take long at all. The exhaust glows red within seconds. Yes oil and coolant are good. I have a scanner and I’ve got P1109. I’ve had a look and it seems to be MAP related? I’ve checked some vacuum hoses but not the one for the map sensor above the thermostat as it seems a pain to get to. I discovered ruined injector o rings and hoped that was the cause but no luck. Am I right in saying there is a vacuum leak anywhere? I’m totally stumped at this point. I’ve also noticed that the map value on my scanner DECREASES when I open the throttle? Is that normal? Does that mean there is an air leak? Help
