Weird alternator fitting

I'm adding accessories to my new motor and ran into a weird issue. There is a gap between the block and the alternator at the top bolt (see pics). I have seen a couple of diagrams that show a spacer, but many that don't. I didn't notice a spacer when I took the alternator off of my old engine. Am I installing it wrong? Do I need to fabricate a spacer? Thanks for the help.

I think you are putting the alternator on the position of the missing the AC compressor. From memory the AC is at the bottom and the alternator at the top. The bottom bolts of the alternator also go thru the top AC holes, if that makes sense.

Edit: just found an old picture I took during the supercharger service showing the setup

Edit2: looking at your photos again, the position of the alternator is correct but you are missing the AC and the supercharger to space things out.
Notice the AC below and the alternator above, sharing the same bolts+holes

The bottom pic is correct. Check some belt routing diagrams too.

Thanks guys. I was guessing I'd missed something. I'll recheck and try to find more pics. I didn't realize that the supercharger acted as the spacer. I was going to wait to reinstall the supercharger until after the engine was bolted in. But I thought I could get the rest of the accessories installed first. Thank you for the help. If anyone can link to a pic of the alternator mounted I'd be grateful.

I don't have one from the front but I do have one showing everything bolted together except for the alternator. One bolt into the supercharger (that clean circle) and two where the bolts are placed temporarily so I wouldn't forget. Also the main reason why I take so many pictures during disassembly.

Supercharger at the top, AC compressor at the bottom. Turns out they don't share bolts! Pretty sure the R50 does.
