Smoke test - EVAP p0455 & Check Filler Cap

Purchased an r53 with several issues. All have been resolved but the p0455/cap code. I used an Ancel L3000 smoke machine and injected smoke at MAP and no smoke detected. Injected smoke at gas cap and see smoke at passenger side rear tire, only. Injected smoke from purge/vent/valve line and only see smoke at the same tire area. So I took the wheel/lining off and see smoke coming out from dust filter under the leak diagnosis pump (16136801158). So I then plugged the hose connected to the dust filter and I get a lot of smoke coming from the electrical connector and area around it. I stopped there. I assume this is not normal? I’m not sure if sections of the evap need to be opened/closed when smoke testing but I’m guessing the LDP should be replaced. Smoke is only coming out of the electrical connector and what appears to be the seam by the connector. No smoke from any of the hoses. I guess my question is, did I locate a leak (assuming this is the only one) and do I have to use an OEM LDP or is this one of those parts that can be ok with aftermarket? It was pretty easy to pull it all down during testing so I wouldn’t mind having to replace it again as the OEM one is ~$300. Thanks!

Sounds like LDP is cracked. Can you look closer? If not take it out. If you have a smoke machine ( sounds like you do ), work on it off the car. Try to seal it up - JB Weld or duct tape to test this.

I checked and no aftermarkets at this time. We do have a short sale on Genuine. Yep i would check it and see if it can be bonded.

so i found a used ldp and gas cap. smoke tested from purge/vent valve line back to ldp with dust filter removed and hose end plugged. it was pretty sunny but didn't notice smoke. the original ldp had quite a bit of smoke so i guess it is better than mine. also replaced filler cap. on the drive home the check filler cap came on and p0455 still exists. however, the next day filler cap light does not come on during multiple start, stop driving doing errands. today, still no check filler cap light. the code for p0455 is still there. unsure how long it takes to clear if there are no issues. so now i need to figure out if there is a drive procedure for the r53 to reevaluate evap leak and pressure that i need to patiently wait through. like, do i need to drive a certain distance, certain speed, idle running, etc? also need to figure out if i can do an evap test with a scanner if the r53 supports evap testing when initiated with a scanner. in case i can't, i'm currently downloading ista-d to see if i can manually open, close sections of the evap system. have enet cable and hoping icom isn't needed for this. can anyone clarify if i'm going down the right path or can steer me in the right direction? i feel like i'm almost there if i can just confirm how to properly smoke test the evap system. surely someone knows the logistics of how the evap system works that can enlighten me. thanks!
