Mini R50 no signal to power steering pump

Hi all,

The power steering on our 2004 mini R50 stopped working. Our friend/mechanic has tested the pump and it works fine by itself.

He told us the pump doesn't get a signal to start when the engine starts, so it stays off. He couldn't trace the signal throughout the car, because of the CAN bus. After calling a Mini expert they advised him to replace the BCM, Body Control Module first, or to repair the BCM. He told us that spending a lot of time tracing the signal wouldn't be worth the effort, since the car isn't worth that anymore. If I can do a simple repair myself it is still worth it.

I searched for a diagram of the BCM to see if I could repair it myself but on the diagram I couldn't find any mention of power steering ( or power steering controllers).

What part of the BCM would be responsible, or play a part in turning on the pump so I might fix it? I could replace the whole BCM as well, but I would like to be sure it could be the BCM that causes this.
