Fog light question

I'm thinking about activating the rear fogs on my 04. I think all I need is the full toggle panel and activation at the dealer. My question is, why do they need separate switches for the front and rear fog lights ? In what situation would you not want both lights activated. I'm moving to the NC mountains and they get really thick fog...Thanks, Mike

Good question. The three cars I've owned (two Volvos and my current MINI) all had separate switches for front and rear fogs. I can't think of a situation where you'd want one and not the other (aside from people who think it looks "cool" to drive around with their front fogs on), but I want to add another question to yours...

I can turn on my front fog lights when the parking lights are on. This is GREAT because my xenons are really bad in fog! Man, they REALLY light up the fog something terrible! (And I think those silly "ray gun" bits around the light make this even worse.) So if the fog is really bad, I can run on the parking lights and front fog lights and have great forward visibility.

But here's the catch - my center-mounted rear fog light (05) only works when the HEADLIGHTS are on. If I turn on the front fogs and turn off the headlights, the rear fog light goes off. So in a really bad fog, I have to choose between (1) seeing, or (2) being seen - can't have both! Is that stupid or what?

I'm hoping my dealer can change the programming so the rear fog works with the parking lights. Anyone know if this is possible?

Don't know. My '03 can have the rear fogs on with only the parking lights if the front fogs are on.
