Sorry I'm of no help answering your question but just curious enough to ask if there are any salvage yards near you?

Granted, there aren't too many 1st gens landing in the yards these days but if you are fortunate enough to be able to find one within driving distance - usually the glove boxes are still in the car.
The ones I used to find (when I lived in the metro area), most were in very good if not excellent condition.
I'm no longer near the city. The closest savage yard to me is now nearly 100mi+ away.

It maybe a long shot but if by some miracle I receive notification that a 1st gen arrives at a yard - I'll try to make the drive and pull one.
But...By then you may have already decided to purchase the replacement you've mentioned above....

Touch base with Open Road Mini in Saginaw, Texas. Nicholas Scalisi is the owner and he sells used parts at good prices.

I have a working glove box destined for the trash. Let me know which pieces you want, and I can send them out to you for shipping cost.

Hi Dan, do you have a pic?

all I need is the door. Although it might be easier to replace the whole thing. Not sure. Have not looked at it that closely yet.

Does it look like the door comes off without pulling the entire box?

I don't think you have to drive much. I think all (most if not) salvage yards are connected by computer. All you have to do is visit one and have them check the computer. They can find them anywhere in the country. Or, just go to the dealership and have them fix/replace it.

My apologies in advance for the seemingly officious interjection...
Well, obviously I'm not Dan; but - I believe there are only 4 small screws, a small air/vent hose and light connection attaching the entire glove box.
Very simple to remove the entire glovebox: 2wo small screws at the very top outer edge and 2wo small screws on the inside back panel of the box + unplug the glovebox light.
After removing the screws, just gently pull forward and out.
Keep in mind - You''ll notice the small air hose detach from it's inlet at the back of the box. Reverse installation of a new/different glovebox is just as simple. Just remember to slip that hose back on before/while putting the box in place.

I should also mention that I have never attempted to replace (or dissect) just the door or pull handle.

Yes sir, seems like replacing the whole box is an easy process.

I was wondering about replacing just the door because it’s available (link in first post), new, for ~$100. I don’t think it’s OE mini / BMW.

I’m planning to take the box out and get a closer look.

I’ll update once i do

Finally got this in. I’ll attach a pic. And some pics of the door hinge.

looks like the hinge is held in place by a lock washer. I’m sure lock washer is not the right term.

big thanks to @megaDan for shipping the replacement box
