Just happened to be home today and was able to catch the 5 o'clock news on FOX. The crash tests mentioned in another post were the topic and they had video footage of the Mini Cooper hitting the wall at 40MPH.

It was hard to watch, but nice to know the Mini did so well. Kinda bitter sweet

someone at work told me of a TV-newsmag that had the MINI in their crash test and told me at 5 mph there was over $1,000 of damage...

I told them that if I crash it was going to be a lot faster than 5 mph!

I read about that here on MCO, and then spent a WEEK hearing about it from all of my friends. Kinda drove me nuts to keep hearing it. I'm not planning on hitting anything at 2.5 MPH, and at 40 MPH in a real accident, the MINI is REALLY safe, and it'll cost way more than $1000 to fix...just like any other car.

The sad part about those bumper tests is the effect it is having on the insurance rates....when I got my MINI in August the collison portion of the bill was $74 for 6 months, on the bill I received today for the next 6 months the collison coverage has increased to $147. This I'm sure is based on early insurance experience and the results of these 5mph crash tests.

Just saw the feature on channel 4. Pretty sad to watch, but could improve insurance rates given the safety.

Let's all pray for good insurance rates.
