Agreed. 15s are great for potholes. The only downside for me is that tire choices are limited in the 205/55R15 size that I run.

That's true, almost all the tire manufacturers trimmed down their inventory and completely eliminated run-flats and combo-treads for 15" wheels, but if you bump it up to a 215/60 you can get a few more options (ie, all weather, speed rating, hardness etc) without rubbing/fitment issues.

I doubt I could get away with a tire that tall without occasional rubbing, and I wouldn't want to go that large anyway for multiple reasons, though it might be fine on an R53 with different offset wheels. I rubbed the inner fenders at full compression when my rear lower shock bushings were worn. If I ever can't get a tire in the 205/55R15 size, I'll probably drop down to a 195/60R15, though summer tires a difficult to find in that size. It's also not particularly applicable to this thread since it's mostly R53 guys, but I have a real spare and thus won't get near a run-flat .

Ditto, after the joy of 18” run flats on my f31, and how much better non RFL tires rode on 19”, even without a spare I won’t run a run flat anymore.

If one of us were to go out of town I have a r50 space saver, wrench and jack I can throw in the hatch (though it does require removing the hatch cover).
