R50/53 Does anyone use the underbody air channel to steering fan?
Does anyone use the underbody air channel to steering fan?
I am talking about this one (p/n 51757201453):

My car didn't have it, and installing it will be problematic if you use Fumoto oil drain valve (well, unless you cut out a hole in the duct). And you would need to remove this duct for every oil change.

Pretty sure only the facelift 05+ S autos have it. I haven’t removed mine for a long time, but I think the screws that hold it on are quick release and work almost like a dzus fastener. You would also need the matching under bumper trim/shield with the vent, or drill holes in the panel for the air intake.
The problem I found when I tried a Fumoto wasn’t the duct, but the power steering fan bracket. The Fumoto rested against the bracket and I was was worried that constant vibrations or excessive engine movement would break the valve and cause a catastrophic oil leak.
I know there are many who use the Fumoto, so I’ll have to look again at the next oil change to see if the bracket could be bent for more clearance, or if a different thickness washer could be used, but the final orientation of the Fumoto when tightened made it hit the bracket on my car.

Yeah, there is no way this thing can be used with Fumoto without cutting a hole. In my case Fumoto doesn't touch the fan's frame or anything, but yeah, they are pretty close to each other.
